Hiya Ladies!!
Who still reads blogs?!!! They said!! Hopefully NHCG Blog readers still do?!! Hope you are fine people!! Can you believe its been a month since I big chopped!!! Time flies oh, I am just starting to embrace this fro of mine by leaving it out and attempting to style it especially on weekends.

I am also finally taking Youtube seriously, so expect a Youtube video from me every week (I hope this drive remains) but I find it more relatable to just chat than type these days, hence my MANE MONDAY INSTALIVE episodes I started this month, basically, every Monday I am on Instalive at around 5pm chatting with my instafam about a topic on hair/haircare/entrepreneurship and I have thoroughly enjoyed the interaction, join us this today!!
Anyways without much ado, here's a link to my ONE MONTH POST BIG CHOP UPDATE-

And just this past weekend, I decided to try onions in my hair for the first time...been hearing too much about onions and you know I could not resist a trial. Here's the video I recorded;

For those that could not watch, I blended half an onion with a little bit of water and mixed it in a spray bottle with honey- Onions is very high in sulfuric protein which is what our hair is made of. It's been proven to help strengthen the hair and with alopecia patients, it's been proven to greatly decrease hair loss!! Honey is a humectant and will attract moisture to the hair so I figured it will be a nice balance to the protein. After spritzing the mix, I went ahead and applied whipped shea butter to the length of my hair to seal in the treatment for the duration I had it in my hair which was about an hour, dont forget to cover your hair with a shower cap or nylon bag  if not the treatment will be dripping all over your body and you will be smelling like you bath a pot of stew LOL!!

I shampooed my hair with black soap when I was done and I must say it left my hair feeling great...what I looked out for was shed hair or breakage and I saw nada!!! I was quite impressed!! I will make onion a regular at my weekend treat parties!! LOL

WHO HAS TRIED OUT ONIONS IN THEIR HAIR? How did you like it?
Hiya Ladies,

Hiya,
How's everyone doing? Hope well! In my last post, I shared that I was going to get some crotchet braids done...well I had been eyeing this newly revived box braid bob hairstyle;

PHOTO CREDITS- INSTAGRAM/GOOGLE SEARCH

And you and I know there was no way I was going to cut my hair in a bob for this hairstyle, so I decided to try the next best thing- CROTCHET BRAIDS!

I decided to use some blonde in front to give the hair style that extra oomph!!

The installation was relatively pain free, there were a few naughty strands that were too thick to form a secure knot so we left those out and for those trying to DIY, make sure the hole at the start of the braid is big enough for the braid to pass through and you should be fine.

I had these in for just a little over a week and got bored/hot (perks of having a salon, free hair!!), to maintain it...all I did was spritz my scalp nightly and oil my edges so the extensions didn't dry the hair out. In terms of longevity I think this hairstyle has the tendency to get rough early especially if like I did, the tips are burnt...what I would do differently next time is not burn the tips but have them securely tied and the ends cut blunt like I've seen others do because I found that the burnt ends were sticking together and pulling the hair apart from the strands causing them not to look neat, to remedy this I just simply trimmed the braids that had hair sticking out and the great part was I trimmed with no fear since my hair was not in any of the braids.

Took the braids out some nights ago and something very interesting happened but that's a post for another day, let's move on to what's in store at SAVVY & CHIC HAIR BEAUTY HUB from tomorrow Black Friday till Christmas Eve!!

Hiya,
How's everyone doing? Hope well!! I'd like to share my latest project with you all- It's with my beloved Shea Butter and I have called them- SHEA BUTTER CUPS!! And I am giving 2 away!!!

Growing up, the reason why I hated Shea butter- 'Ori'; was the smell!!! My mum tried to make me use it to massage my legs so I would not have 'Salee' or 'Yams'- (Strong legs) but I never used it!! Thankfully I don't have 'YAMS'!!.
With the advent of my healthy hair care journey, I quickly learnt that Shea Butter is a great moisturizer and sealant not just for the hair but for the skin too...last year when we opened the hub I decided to make a Shea Butter Station part of the store, offering ladies shea butter like Ice cream with different scents like Chocolate, Peppermint/ Tea Tree oil and Fruity.

It's  been a hit as its an in expensive way to try shea butter whipped to perfection :), this year I decided to take things up a notch by creating these butter cups that look and smell like Icecream or cupcakes;

LAVENDER BUTTER CUP!!

LEMON BUTTER CUP

HONEYSUCKLE BUTTER CUP- Contains pure honey!!

These SMELL DIVINE (Personal favorite is the lemon butter cup) and are whipped with different essential/carrier oils, fragrance oils,  humectants like glycerin and honey...they are colored with a colorant that is safe for the skin and hair and piped nicely into these containers...

One cup costs N800 only and a box of 3 this season with Valentine themed wrapping is N2500- To Order please visit www.hairbeautyhub.com or call 08090613325...delivery and pick up options available(only in lagos)!!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this project and will be giving out 2( 1 each), if you'd like to be one of the 2 ladies, you need to live in Lagos(Sorry to Non- Lagosians, still figuring out a way to transport it to long distances) and you will be willing to come pick it up yourself at 30 Norman Williams st, Ikoyi Lagos...if that sounds good to you then hit me up- daboju@yahoo.com- Subject- I want a butter cup. The first 2 mails I receive that qualify are my winners...

Thanks for the love all these years, Happy Valentine's day in advance!!

Hiya,
So one of the signature whipped Shea Butter mixes we offer at Savvy & Chic Hair/Beauty Hub is the Whipped Choco Shea butter and We've been asked why we offer it and how to make it a couple of times so this post is all about that.

Cocoa's numerous health benefits is a nourishing treat for skin and hair—adding shine, vibrancy, and improving the general health of both.
Cocoa has flavanoids, rich in magnesium,  protein, riboflavin, vitamin A and thiamine; minerals that helps to combat hair loss. Also contains one of the highest levels of antioxidants than many other sources on Earth, which is also really great for your skin. Also, if used consistently over time, the cocoa powder can darken the hair strands- source
There are different forms of Cocoa, we chose to use cocoa powder in its purest form.

Most times Cocoa is used as a hair mask mixed with conditioner, yoghurt or water but we decided to whip it with shea butter so it serves the purpose of sealing in moisture and acting as a antioxidant and infusing all those nutrients in your hair strands plus the added benefit of smelling divine!!!Don't attempt to taste it though because pure cocoa tastes bitter!

So lets get to the HOW;

Whip 100% Shea butter in an electric mixer;

 Add your oils; Here I added Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Added Glycerin;

Finally I added 100% Cocoa powder which I got from the baking aisle at the grocery store ( Make sure the ingredient label says JUST COCOA POWDER, no added sugar or preservatives);

FINAL RESULT;

Rich Chocolatey Shea Butter goodness!! Love it!!

So that's that, feel free to try out my recipe if you want. In other news, the APRIL IMPORT WINDOW OPENS TOMORROW  TILL THE 7TH as usual, so ladies that want hair/beauty products, please feel free to email info@hairbeautyhub.com with your orders and we will gladly deal with them!!

Thanks for your support!!

Hiya,
How was the weekend? This weekend I gave my hair a little TLC! You see, let me confess, I put my hair in a top knot/bun on Wednesday last week and literally ignored it till Saturday! All I did while it was in the bun was spritz my water and glycerin mixture all over the hair and brush the edges!some times ignoring your hair like that can be beneficial to it because you are not combing and brushing and loosing hair BUT if you make the ignorance permanent thats when you will cause wahala!

Any ways back to my weekend, so Saturday morning came by and I mixed what was left of the first bag of henna I bought with an egg

 sectioned my hair and slapped it on from root to tip, covered my hair with a paper bag and then my shower cap and lounged about the house for 3 hours. This concoction was recommended to me by the Indian lady at the Indian shop where I bought the henna from plus I did some research and I  must say, henna is all the rave in the natural hair community o! Apparently it's also a great protein treatment, hmm protein and condition all in one! Love it; as you know Im the girl with relaxed hair that treats it as natural hair :)

When the 3hours were up, I mixed some pure honey with the TRESemme anti breakage conditioner I bought at Target(basically any good conditioner is fine)  and slapped that on my hair too, loved the yummy smell. I am just calling it a smoothie for efizzy!*wide grin*

Then I allowed my hair to air dry and when it was almost dry decided to do a Bantu knot which I have not done in ages!
I sectioned my hair into 2 sections, moisturized my hair with my whipped Shea butter

then applied a pea size amount of TRESemme curl hydration which I love( just saw it, got it, never read a review and It works great for creating soft bouncy curls plus it's not expensive)

LOVE THE CONSISTENCY(light and moisturizing)

Then I twisted the section from root to tip and then all around so it formed a knot, then I tucked the ends away but you can use pins for a more secure hold. I created 6 knots, wore my satin bonet and went to bed.

The next morning, I loosen the knots; the 2 in front loosened themselves overnight :(  I spritz over the hair my water glycerin mixture and used my fingers to shake things up at the roots, flipped my head from side to side and ended up with soft beach wavy hair just as though I did a twist out!

Not bad, at least I gave my hair the acknowledgment it was seeking!lol

Did u show your hair some TLC? Let me know below. This week I'm working on my protective hairstyle look book post for inspiration to readers looking for protective styles so stay tuned!

Yup I have finally succumbed! It's time to be Au naturale and I am super excited to inform you my dear readers that I have resolved to turn my back away from............artificial hair products!!from now on most of all the products I will use on my hair will be natural products!

I can imagine what's going through my natural hair readers' minds 'thought she was going natural as in turning away from the creamy crack called a relaxer!hissssss' LOL

Well I am still relaxed and plan on staying that way for much longer, when I was younger in secondary school I had natural hair since they made me cut my hair and I hated it!! Seeing so many people go natural has tempted me I won't lie but by the time I remember how stressful combing my hair was I am convinced to remain relaxed, so natural hair ain't my thing but I love the way natural ladies care for their hair and so I have resolved to be relaxed but treat my hair like its natural because at the end of the day, relaxed hair is more fragile due to relaxers and needs all the care it can get!

So from now on I am switching from normal shampoo

To BLACK SOAP!!

It's all natural, has no sulphates which damage and dry hair out. Instead it's a mixture of shea butter,honey, palm kernel oil, aloe Vera juice etc basically all natural goodness! I bought the dudu-osun brand and used it on my hair over the weekend and though it didn't lather as much as shampoo, it's Tuesday and my hair ain't itching me so I'm good!

I have not found a replacement for conditioner but for leave in conditioner I did the switch ages ago to WATER & GLYCERINE mixture in a spray bottle

The hair product I use more than anything else is hair moisturizer, now I can say bye bye profectiv or Organics because I have swapped them for
WHIPPED SHEA BUTTER with ESSENTIAL OILS!

Thanks to the natural blog NATURAL NIGERIAN which I found through African naturalista's blog, I learnt how to make this concoction and I am loving it!Let me take you through the steps quickly;

First you heat raw Shea butter placed in a bowl over a pot of boiling water( this method is good so the Shea is not over heated and losses it's nutrients)

When it's melted, you add your essential oils, I added castor, olive, tea tree, coconut, sweet almond and then glycerin

After you add the oils you whisk the mixture preferably with an electric whisk.

You'l need patience sha, I'm saying this because the impression I got was that the mixture turns white and fluffy soon after you whisk just like making cake but nope, it took the whole day! I whisked initially, it stayed watery and then I left it alone, came back a few hours later whisked it again then it was slightly thicker, hadn't changed color though and I honestly thought that I had done something wrong. Left it alone, checked it in the evening and it had really thickened so I whisked it again that's when it became this thick yummy looking mixture that you can mistake for vanilla ice cream!
When it cools down it goes from looking like this;

 To this; soft, buttery and above all moisturizing!! Shea butter(ori) can be found in the market and its very affordable!

For coloring I finally found some henna dye in an Indian shop in VI!
Henna is all natural and not only colors but conditions hair.

For hot oil treatments I will incorporate Indian oils I got from the same store with my usual oils, they are infused with extracts from herbs like neem, amla, tulsi which are all great for healthy hair.

I got a relaxer treatment over the weekend and it went well, by the end of the week I will do one of these treatments and let you know how it goes. For as many of you that want to join the natural club either in my way or the actual way(no more relaxers) please you will be doing your hair great injustice if you do not research before you start. You can start with this post then check out natural blogs like the ones I mentioned, those ladies know what they are talking about, they also sell natural products which I will be patronizing once I get the hang of things, I don't want to be a natural product junkie just yet :)
Thanks for stopping by! Stay tuned for my next post, feel free to comment or warn me about any of the above products I want to use!

Ciao,
Dabs
