Hiya People,
When I blogged about Chebe Powder HERE some months ago, I promised to have a comparison post after I had used the Chebe powder I purchased enough times to form a solid opinion.
Now that I have used Chebe powder for about 3 months for my hair treatments and I have used Henna powder for years, the time has come, the verdict is in...
THEY ARE BOTH WINNERS FOR HAIR CARE!! BUT....As with most things in life, they each have strengths and weaknesses. Let's get into those shall we...
CHEBE POWDER STRENGTHS- Chebe is great for infusing MOISTURE and detangling knots and tangles. As I explained in my earlier post about this powder, I think the detangling qualities have to do with the grains and their gentle 'exfoliation' of the hair strands as you rub them along your hair cuticles. The retained moisture must also be a factor of the way it is applied with either an oil or butter and braided to seal everything in...I bring this point up because when I used the chebe powder in my deep conditioner and applied it to my hair, my hair detangled beautifully but once I washed the Chebe powder out, the moisture was not necessarily retained...brings me to Chebe powder's weaknesses...
CHEBE POWDER WEAKNESSES-
1. The results as I mentioned earlier are not lasting...Chebe powder doesn't seem to have penetrative benefits beyond the surface of the hair in my humble opinion...once the Chebe is washed out of your hair that's it...I think that's why the Chad women have to keep applying layers and layers of it...but who has time to be walking around with mud in their hair...brings us to weakness number two.
2. It is like sand- grainy and let me tell you, the itch from mistakenly touching my scalp was insane!! When it itch my scalp the first time, I thought it was a fluke but every time after then, I have felt the same itch, so please avoid your scalp as the instructions say. Application is definitely messy because it doesn't mix into a smooth paste...I have seen Shea butter and Chebe mixes but not tried them out yet so I don't have an opinion on how smooth they may be but my mixes with oils or conditioners have not been smooth.
3. The smell might be a problem for some people, it's quite nutty and smells like burnt sand...not the most appealing but definitely not the worst smell.
HENNA POWDER STRENGTHS- Is a great STRENGTHENING powder likened to a protein treatment because it has the ability to penetrate the hair cuticle and leave them feeling stronger. If you buy the body art quality, it is smooth to the touch and mixes into a smooth soft paste which mixes very well with oils, coconut milk, deep conditioners etc.
HENNA POWDER WEAKNESSES-
For people who are sensitive to protein, they may find henna powder to leave their hair too strong and some complain of Henna drying their hair out that's why I recommend following a henna treatment with a moisture treatment.
Henna STAINS!! Especially if you leave the color to release...you will be dealing with major auburn to deep red stains that can be difficult to get out so be careful during application.
In all, as I mentioned earlier, I think these two powders are great to incorporate in a hair regimen...Chebe Powder for MOISTURE and then you can alternate with Henna Powder for PROTEIN.
Have you used the two powders, please share your thoughts below...
Thanks for Stopping by,
Dabs

Hiya Ladies,
Hope all is well at your ends!! I came on here to quickly share about deep conditioning (DC).
It is one of the most essential things to do to your hair if you want your hair healthy and long. It also is one of those things that varies from one head of hair to the other in terms of products used..however the procedure for an effective deep conditioning treatment is largely the same. Below I am sharing 4 ways you might be doing a DC Wrongly...
![]() |
| DCing under this turban |
1. FOCUSING ON JUST YOUR ENDS- Yes the ends are the oldest part of your hair and should be the focus when applying products, but the scalp where the hair follicles are needs some love too!! When I DC, I usually like to line my scalp with an oil blend first then proceed to apply the treatment all over my hair, so that I give my hair a hot oil treatment at the same time as I treat the rest of my hair.
2. DON'T DC IN A HURRY- Deep conditioning shouldn't be something you do when you need to be somewhere ASAP! If you are at the salon under the steamer, get your money's worth and give your hair at least 30-45 minutes under that steamer...If you are at home and using body heat, give it at least an hour...this is because as the name implies, this is a DEEP treatment and needs time to penetrate deep into your hair shaft- Applying a hair mask for 15 minutes and then rinsing out is NOT a DC.
3. DISTRIBUTE THE PRODUCT EVENLY- There's no point deep conditioning just parts of your hair, section the hair into smaller sections so the product can be evenly distributed all over the hair and every strand is systematically coated.
4. DON'T LEAVE ANY HAIR OUT- If you are under the steamer, make sure your entire head is under the steamer and not just parts of it, I have seen some ladies sleeping under the steamer at the hub and their entire front hair is out of the hood or they are reading a magazine and half their head is bent away from the hood...OR if you are just using body heat and you leave your edges out because you don't want the shower cap laying on your forehead, this will deny those areas of the much needed heat that is required for a proper DC.
In summary, what is worth doing, is worth doing well. So if you have been making any of these mistakes adjust and get the most out of your deep conditioning treatment.

Hello Ladies,
If you missed it on my socials, I recently just celebrated my 1st year natural anniversary.
I will say dealing with my natural hair has been a learning curve but not as difficult as I envisaged. All I did was tweak my texlaxed hair regimen along the way and got some products to address my present hair issues, one of them being having low porosity hair.
Low porosity hair simply means that the cuticles of your hair (the protective outer layer) lay flatter than normal which makes moisture more difficult to penetrate to the hair cortex. The reverse is high porosity which means the cuticles are raised allowing moisture in and out of the hair cortex at will. Having low porosity hair is much less a problem than having high porosity hair which is considered to be damaged hair in all honesty.
However because most 4c naturals do not use the right products, leaving their hair perpetually dry causing breakage, low porosity hair has gotten a very bad name over time in our community.
So these are the tips I have been applying on my low porosity hair to ensure my hair does NOT stay feeling dry and crunchy and prone to breakage...
1. I clarify my hair once a month- because with low porosity hair, the hair is also prone to buildup since the cuticles are flat, so the moisture that manages to get in keeps building up. A clarifying shampoo session with WARM WATER to raise the cuticles will lift all that build up at least once every month to give you a clean slate to work with.
2. I always deep condition with heat...the difference is crystal clear with my hair when I just condition and when I deep condition with heat. It's like night and day. Deep conditioning hair masques are packed with ingredients that will nourish the hair shaft and cortex and the heat will help ensure that the masque gets infused deep into all those parts of the hair strand.
3. I use humectants...humectants will attract moisture to the hair and when you use them as your moisturizer(the first product you apply to your hair for moisture), you are setting the stage up for balancing out your porosity...look out for vegetable glycerin (avoid in the winter), aloe vera gel or juice, propylene glycol and silicones in your leave in conditioner, moisturizer or hair detangler.
4. Finally to seal, I avoid heavy oils...remember what was said about the buildup? Using an oil like coconut oil or castor oil as a daily sealant will be too much for low porosity hair and will cause even more dryness. Use light oils like grapeseed, almond, avocado to produce a nice oil blend for the ends of your hair as well as your scalp for nourishment without the build up.
So ladies with low porosity hair that feels dry all the time, all it takes is being deliberate about infusing moisture into your hair with these steps, I know since I started following them my hair has felt much better.
Thanks as always for stopping by,

Hello People!!
I stumbled on a video about a powder called 'Chebe' from Chad a few months ago. The video claimed that the ladies who have butt length hair use this powder daily and it grows their hair!!
As always, this got me excited and I decided to get my hands on it! Shared the news with my Instafam and a bunch of ladies ordered via the SHOPNHCG IMPORTS.
Well the powder came and I have used it for three weeks now.
This is how I have used it, I start out on Friday, I mix a spoonful of it with virgin coconut oil and it forms a paste.
I then apply the paste to my hair from the mid shaft to the tips. DO NOT APPLY TO SCALP, it will itch you like crazy (I experienced this first hand). Then I braided the hair, don't twist, braid- it will retain the paste better (You can view how I did this on my Instagram page).
Repeated the application on Saturday and Sunday and finally washed it off on Monday morning.
By the third weekend I did this, I started noticing that I have had significantly less single strand knots and breakage.
Basically, two things are happening when you use this paste that I feel caused LESS BREAKAGE & LESS SINGLE STRAND KNOTS -
The oil in the paste seals the cuticle, then weighs the hair down so that the curly hair doesn't curl into itself and form those knots.
The chebe powder in the paste is what I will consider an exfoliator. You know when you have a black head and you use a face scrub with sugar or those beads that helps smooth the face surface so that the black spots fade, that's how I feel this powder works on the hair...the powder helps smooth the hair shaft causing less knots and sealing split ends!!
No wonder these Chebe ladies have such long hair!
Because you have to agree that they are not the only ones in North Africa that have that texture of hair, so their length cannot just be attributed to their hair texture only.
It's like Indians with their henna powder, but I will say that henna is a much smoother powder than chebe and I don't see it 'exfoliating' the hair. I just might do a post comparing the two powders, be on the look out for that post.
If you are natural and have been dealing with those pesky knots, I really recommend you try this powder!!
HAVE YOU HEARD OF THIS POWDER BEFORE? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT?

Hiya,
Yes that's my hair with COLOR IN IT!! *Gasps! After I vehemently promised myself never ever to touch a pack of hair dye even with a 10 feet pole again because of the destruction hair dye caused me years ago, I found myself longing and drooling and ogling over colored hair since I became natural...
You know I am natural now right? Okay just checking! :)
I was able to convince myself that since my hair is natural now it can withstand the adverse effects of color better than relaxed hair- FACT.
I however did not want to take a huge leap so I decided to play it safe...Here are the steps I took to ensure that my self color process would not leave me in tears down the line.
Step 1- I thoroughly clarified my hair days before the D-Day with a bentonite clay mask- Follow this link HERE to see how I make my mask.
Step 2- The day of, I bought the Crème of Nature Honey Blonde hair dye-
Before application, I twisted the section I was coloring into about 10 twists then coated the tips with 100% black Jamaican oil- to serve as a protective barrier basically to prevent the hair dye from breaking down the hair cuticle completely since the health of my hair is always my priority.
Step 3- I decided to apply the color to the last 3- 2 inches of the front of my hair, I really wanted to just give my hair some highlights and nothing too dramatic. Again this was to mitigate any major setbacks that could arise from dying my hair...this step is highly recommended especially for those who have never dyed their hair before.
*At home hair coloring is risky. Coloring should be left for experienced cosmetologists.

Step 4- I wrap the colored sections of the twists in foil and waited about 30 minutes to 45 minutes. Once I saw that the hair was colored I washed the hair out and followed with a deep conditioning hair mask for at least an hour.
Air dried and styled!!
The final result looked really good but let me tell you I could instantly feel that the colored hair was more fragile, it felt thinner and more stringy! Since coloring my hair, I have seen an increased number of split ends and single strand knots so my hair is always heavily sealed to combat that.
So you see, why I titled this post Color with Caution. I colored the very ends of my hair that I can easily snip off if they become too unhealthy looking, compare that to having to chop off 5 - 6 inches because the hair dye has damaged the entire hair...with this decision, I can enjoy having a different look with colored tips and I can also sleep easy knowing that if the tips get damaged and I have to snip them off, it won't set me back on my hair journey!
Win Win I say :)
