NAIJA HAIR CAN GROW
Hiya,
How's everyone doing! Hope all is well :) This post is all about the well acclaimed Darcy's botanical Coconut Lemongrass transitioning crème;

The verdict is IN!! I used the very last bit of this hair cream today to get this style going;

so after almost 2months of having the 8oz bottle I can boldly say I have an opinion and its a mixed one...let's start with the good stuff;

The Ingredients; Distilled water, Organic Aloe vera juice, Organic virgin Coconut oil, Behentrimonuim Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol(conditioning emulsifier), Vitamin E, Panthenol, Sage, Nettle, Lavender extracts, glycol(A paraben-free preservative) and lemongrass oil.

Those are some really good ingredients and you can see the company's decision to stick to organic/artificial preservative free ingredients. But at the end of the day, its all about how my hair felt when I used this product and for the most part, my hair felt good! This product has great slip and absorbed into my strands very quickly and instantly made my hair feel very moisturized.

The smell was surprisingly not as pungent as I would have thought which was a bit of a relief but also a bit of a let down because I LOVEE the smell of coconuts and lemongrass! In fact those two ingredients are what drew me to this crème.

The product also didn't weigh my hair down at all however the fact that it got absorbed easily was sometimes a con because it meant that I had to use quite a lot of product at a time to feel a real difference and as my stretch went on I never could use this crème alone but had to use it with a detangler or water based hair spritz (water/glycerine mix) and that was pretty surprising seeing as ladies transitioning deal with way more texture than my 14/15weeks new growth...made me wonder how effective this product is at least for  transitioning ladies with my hair type.

My final qualms with this product has got to be the Price!! Yeah Yeah I get it, the product has good ingredients but so do other hair creams that cost less for the quantity you get. The 8oz bottle is $12 and then there's an additional $6.95 for shipping making it $18.95, now that's a lot for such little quantity and I am finding that that's what most 'natural/organic' hair product companies are charging just like Silk Dreams products and truth is because its now a ' thing' to use paraben free/organic products, the demand stays high giving them an edge with pricing! Wish they would be a bit more  reasonable with the price, hopefully they get their products in stores which will help save on shipping costs.

In summary, I liked Darcy's botanical Coconut Lemongrass transitioning crème; Did I love it? Will my hair strands not be able to survive without it? Is it a must have in my hair regimen? The answer to all these questions- unfortunately no...I still maintain that its a decent hair crème though but for transitioning? mba!(no) and that's my humble submission on this product...

Have any of you tried Darcy's botanical Coconut Lemongrass transitioning crème? Do you share my sentiments or you loved it? Please feel free to share your experiences with this crème below.

In other news, I am opening 2 new pages on the blog; DABS TALKS BEAUTY and INTERIOR DECOR WITH DABS....I know I know, this is a hair blog but for those of you ladies that have been on here with me since 2011 and have other interests aside hair like in beauty and interior décor these pages are for you :) of course this blog will still remain centred on hair but with a twist :). More on the new pages later, for now thanks so much for stopping by!!!

Hiya,
How's everyone doing? Hope all's well at your endz!! My last post was on a few Indian products I purchased among them was NEEM OIL!! I wrote that the look/smell was awful but I wish somebody, anybody would have immediately WARNED ME about this oil!!!

Let me just narrate my experience with last weekend's hair treat that went south before I could say Jack Robinson!!

So I mixed into a paste the Henna and Rosewater all from the Indian shop, then in a separate bowl I mixed the Vitika egg protein deep conditioner and neem oil-

The smell instantly hit my nose (just imagine the worst medicine smell EVER) plus I had several urges to throw up but for the sake of all the benefits I read Neem oil has, I persevered and applied the mixes to my hair, 5 minutes later my head started pounding!! I was having the worst headache ever! I had never incurred such a bad headache even during the entire 9months of being preggers!! Still I persevered 30minutes more by this time I was sure I was having a full blown fever- kept telling everyone at home that the oil must have been absorbed into my scalp and was now affecting my blood-(was probably exaggerating at this point but can you blame me, my head was pounding-LOL)

So I quickly googled THE SIDE EFFECTS OF NEEM OIL and there they were, all my symptoms- vomiting (had the urge several times), brain swelling (maybe that's why my head was aching so bad), lethargy-(was extremely exhausted)! Other side effects include infertility, miscarriage if pregnant, seizures, comas to name a few!

Once I read all the side effects I was really upset with myself because I am breast feeding!! How dangerous of me, I did what most people do when they hear of a hair remedy; I ONLY Googled the BENEFITS OF NEEM OIL, read the benefits and totally ignored the rest of the articles with the side effects and warnings!

So I learnt the very hard way so you my dear readers don't have to- please, please and please if you hear of a product/remedy for hair growth for the first time even from me, simply confirm from our pal google it's benefits, side effects, reviews everything before wasting precious pennies investing in it only for it to end up in the trash where my Neem oil bottle presently lays!

To get the nasty smelling oil from my hair, I searched my house for the most sulphate packed shampoo and mixed it with Baking Soda which I read will help rid the smell and the oil itself;

 I washed my hair with the mix a few times and had my fingers crossed all the while hoping the smell vanished...by the time I packed sweet smelling moisturizers and coconut oil on my strands, the smell was GONE!! YES!! Praise the Lord!!

So that was the end of the saga of the worst weekend treat ever! I will never use Neem oil ever again, there are many other more pleasant products that will give the same benefits Neem oil proffers! This weekend's treat was very different, thankfully! Yesterday night I applied CHI'S Nourish Intense Silk hair masque for an overnight deep condition;

Very Good hair treat, my hair feels super soft and lush- CHI products are known to be really good so I was not expecting any less plus my hair has some of the red tint( can been seen under light) from last weekend's treat- the only benefit from that treat *rolling eyes*;

You Ladies know I am not about just teasing you with hair products that you cannot get your hands on, Naija Hair Can Grow Monthly Imports reopen on the first week of September so if you want any of these products or products of your choice you can get them!! For now the procedure LISTED ON THIS PAGE remains the same.

Thanks for stopping by,

Hiya,
How's everyone doing? I'd love to say a big BIG thank you to all readers that congratulated me for the new addition to my family, thanks for all the kind prayers and comments!! Much appreciated *HUGS*

Well, my next few posts will be all about hair product hauls and reviews, there is never a better time to test and try products than when you are surrounded by them, my inner strategic product junkie has fully surfaced and I have been stocking up on quite a few hair products which I will share with you all! First up are the Indian products I bought today!!

I was craving a Henna gloss for my hair as a weekend treat yesterday but since I didn't have henna I decided to check google to see if there were any Indian shops around my area and to my excitement there was an Indian shop very near me with excellent reviews!!! Immediately made a date for today with the place called VISHALA GROCERY & RESTAURANT!!

 Went there today and asked for Henna and was directed to this entire section of Indian hair and skin goodies #excitedddddd!!!

I got to Shopping ( this weekend is also tax free weekend so all the products I bought were tax free, the extra excuse I used to convince myself to buy these products :)

As you can see, I got me some Hair  Henna( trust that it will be extra refined which is best for a smooth application on hair)- It has directions on how to make the most of your henna; if you want it for dark brown hair or highlights or burgundy colouring or as a conditioner.

Then I got some Vitika hair products;
Vitika naturals extreme moisturizing styling hair cream almond, honey and aloe vera
Vitika naturals volume and thickness styling hair cream coconut henna and almond
Vitika naturals egg protein deep conditioning hair mask with egg and honey

I must say when I picked up the hair creams I thought the containers were empty and to me that was a good sign because it meant that the product inside is very light weight and won't weigh my hair down, I opened to check them out and they were sealed but I bought them anyway, got home and first thing I did was open them up and BEHOLD;

Light and fluffy looking whipped to perfection hair cream was staring back at me!!! Can't wait to see how these products make my hair feel! Stay tuned for their reviews and use my test when you are hair product shopping, remember; the heavier and more dense the product feels in the container the more it will weigh your hair down and clog your pores!! Aim for fluffy and airy hair moisturizers, they do the best job!

The next thing I grabbed was Neem oil which I have never used, It looks like really gross cough syrup and it smells WORSE!! but the BENEFITS OF NEEM OIL outweigh the smell so I got it anyway and will use it strictly for deep conditioning where I can wash it off with a sweet smelling shampoo or conditioner later...

I also grabbed a tiny bottle of Parachute Coconut Oil (Also available in PARK N SHOP and EMJAYS SUPERMARKET in Naija) I love love love this particular brand of coconut oil because it smells just like coconuts!!! The coconut oil I used before didn't smell like coconuts but this one? WOW fresh coconuts on my hair!!

Rose water  was the final thing I got, Rose water promotes hair growth by improving the circulation of blood on the scalp, conditions the hair strands and curbs dandruff and itching, I will use rosewater instead of regular water to mix my Henna into a paste and other similar concoctions as part of my weekend hair treats.

That's all for now with my Indian hair products haul, as I stated please look out for proper product reviews of the Vitika Products and other hair product hauls and reviews! These product hauls and reviews should help readers who want to partake in the SHOP NHCG IMPORT WINDOWS which will be up and running from September!!! Thanks again ladies for all the support!!

Hiya,
Its the month of August already!!! And this month with this post I finally have the chance to let the cat outta the bag and answer the question above!! But before I do, I wanna ask how many of you suspected or guessed it? I know two NHCG readers kinda guessed it, one actually out rightly asked me...I am sure you are wondering what I am on about!!!

Well well, I am here to let you all know that on Friday the 2nd of August, the Lord blessed me and my family with another bouncing baby boy!!! I have been preggers all year long and that's why my face kept getting rounder and rounder and rounder!!lol

I found out I was preggers late last year and my excitement was off the roof, finally I will be having my GIRL!! Yes!! I started dreaming of how I will dress her, all the many hairstyles I will try on her, the cute clothes, hair accessories...oh my gosh, my head was spinning, it didn't help that this pregnancy felt so different from my first, I was dealing with more break outs, my hair was not filling out as quickly as last time(only till the last 2months did I notice a change), my skin was not as glowing...after reading that girls take your pretty away I was sure I was having a girl until....March came around and I decided to check what I was having on my trip to the US  where I knew there would be accuracy and with all the confidence in the world, the ultra sound technician told me after checking-BOY!! I was like Huh!!!Almost told him to check again but didn't want him to feel insulted...and to top things up, a day before I had gone on a confident shopping spree for my little girl, I bought everything, shoes, socks and hair ruffles included!!

That day I went home deflated but after hours of reflecting on my behaviour I quickly ask God and the baby boy in my tummy for forgiveness and told him how much I loved him and couldn't wait to meet him and told God I trusted Him to give me my girl in His time and just to make my boy happy, I went out shopping the next day and got him cute little onesies!! Lol

Now he is here and I could not be more excited because he looks so much like his older brother when he was a baby and I cannot wait to see them grow up together while I get the chance to dress them up like twins!! *wide grin*

So now that the cat is out the bag, you know that with having a baby comes post partum shedding, last time I wrote this post on post partum shedding and how I planned to combat it and I will go by the same tips this time, my shedding for my first son started sometime between 3 to 4 months post partum and lasted for about a month and that was it, you never heard me complain about post partum shedding again, this time I am hoping that's the case...

I also set my hair up for a successful post partum experience because I made sure that during the pregnancy my hair was in top shape especially in the last months, ladies tend to be so overwhelmed from when they are like 7/8months pregnant that they just forget all about their hair either in braids or weaves or just packed up away from their faces; what happens when you do that is when you have the baby and the pregnancy hormones start to leave your body, your hair which you had abandoned for months will be in such a bad state that the shedding which should just take your hair back to its normal fullness will end up taking a toll on your hair and you will loose more hair than you should have! So believe it or not, few days before I was due in the hospital I hair triggered my hair overnight with oils, had my hair in a high ponytail ends tucked away through out my stay in the hospital and on Sunday when I got back from the hospital, I deep conditioned my hair with this new deep conditioner that came highly recommended by a NHCG reader;

 Mixed Chicks deep conditioner and I loved it!! Fingers crossed I keep loving my hair post partum shedding and all! If you just had a baby and are loosing sleep over the shedding going on, don't! Keep taking care of it, the way you did while you were pregnant and the only hair you will loose is hair you are SUPPOSED to loose, your hair will simply go back to its normal healthy fullness :)

In other news, now that baby is here I can now be a bit definite about when SHOP NHCG will be back in business...I am looking at opening the September import window but having a pre-order arrangement of some sort before then...still sorting it out while I recover, will keep you all updated in subsequent posts!! Thanks for hanging here with me ladies!!Expect bigger and better from NHCG as the year concludes!!

Hiya,
How's everyone doing? Hope all's well at your ends!! I am finally here with my relaxer update, its been about 2 weeks already since I got it done and I didn't want this month to end without me giving an update and putting up pictures! So here goes;

I relaxed my hair on the 18th of July, exactly 15weeks and 4 days post relaxer, I talk about how well my stretch went here. I used my usual relaxer which I stay in love with :)

Had it on my hair for 25minutes max (from application to smoothing out with a tail comb). I coated my hair in 3 sections from my mid shaft to my ends with Biosilk's conditioner and olive oil to prevent those section from absorbing any relaxer especially as I rinsed out the relaxer.

Could already see how much length retention I had when I was done smoothing out the relaxer;

Once I rinsed out the relaxer, I let my hair air dry and then followed up with moisturizing and sealing with some new products I will review in my next post, if you follow me on Instagram @Naijahaircangrow you already saw some of the products :) Then I used a few pumps of Paul Mitchell's super skinny serum and straightened my hair;

See Results;

My roots came out straight with just the right texture not bone straight, edges came out sleek, my very ends however need to catch up to each other, I am giving them time...

After cutting 3inches off my hair in May I had my fingers crossed about my length retention after such a long stretch( long stretches done improperly can cause more harm than good) but I am very satisfied with my retention of about 2inches after the stretch, so satisfied that I will stretch till December and see if I can get my hair to fall on LINE 11 by the end of the year, the goal was LINE 13 but thanks to my quest for sharp ends I am settling for line 11 and we can take it from there...

That's all for my relaxer update, hope all the stretchers in the house are inspired! It is indeed possible to successfully stretch your relaxer treatments. Thanks for stopping by as usual. Stay tuned for my hair products haul and reviews especially patronisers of SHOP NHCG which will soon be back in business!!!
