NAIJA HAIR CAN GROW

Hiya,
It's been a minute! I am still trying to adjust to work mode at my new job but God dey! How are you all doing?! Hope all's well!

Well, Sunday came along and I did the relaxed hair version of a wash and go, then styled my hair to church but by the end of the service I looked like a lioness with frizzed out rain beaten hair (it rained) all over my face, I just felt like singing to myself ' meh meh meh meh, I told you to pack your hairrrrr'. I just felt like a hot mess, then I looked at my ends, uneven and annoying with splits here and there, I tell you split ends no dey look face oh, even with all theTLC I try to give this hair!hmmm

Without much ado, out came my hair cutting scissors! I cut off 2 inches from my hair

 That's about 4 months of growth if my hair grows 1/2 an inch every month, it was hard but very necessary!!

Below I will put you through how I trimmed those ugly split ends off and then how I cut the 2 inches off myself.  You know I am the DIY Princess and handing over my hair to a stylist for a simple trim at the risk of the stylist becoming scissors happy was not worth the risk, I still have the picture in my head of a lady that came in with neck length hair at a salon I visited but left with an Anita Baker  hair cut after asking for a trim!!! So my advice? Trim your hair yourself!! I advice you get a trim as often as you relax your hair which is for most people every 2 months.

Any ways lets proceed with how I do my DIY hair trim!!

Step 1; Straighten your hair on low heat setting(for an accurate trim) and divide your hair into 2 sections like this;

Step 2; Further divide one of the two sections preferably from the center line to ear level

Step 3; With the smaller section, twist the hair from root to tip in one direction, any hair sticking out is most likely split and needs to be trimmed off with your scissors, You can use a mirror for guidance;

Step 4; Tilt the very ends of that same twisted section upward and trim them off

Repeat steps 3 and 4 to the remaining sectioned hair and then to the other side of your hair. Stop here if you just want to trim and retain your length. But since I wanted to take out at least 2inches off my ends due to unevenness in the middle, I proceeded to give my self a cut using these quick easy steps I learnt on You Tube.

Simply leave the hair in the two sections, focusing on one section, gather the hair;

 Slide your finger firmly down to your ends, keeping your head straight;

When you have reached your desired length which should be just before your hair thins out, carefully trim the hair underneath your fingers;

THE RESULT; Trimmed, Healthy Ends!!

Now Down to the WHY;
To know why it is important to keep your ends trimmed and healthy, read this educative article HERE!!

Too tired to type one more word!!!

Hiya,
How's everyone doing?! Hope all is well at your endzzzz!! I have a confession to make and please I beg you all, don't shoot me!!! :)

I have fallen in love with..............a manufactured hair product by Organic Root Stimulator called HAIRepair Intense Moisture Creme!!

Yes I put up a post talking about how I was going all natural for good(hair product wise) blah blah but you see since my Shea butter mix which lasted me till the end of June finished, I have been too busy to mix some more up so in the mean time I was using this product from the meet up

But this peppy peppermint butter is an oil based butter and is better used as a sealant after you have moisturized your hair and not a moisturizer as I was using it. My hair was feeling greasy and weighed down all the time and I knew something had to change so while I was stuck with my little dilemma, on came an advert on BET advertising  Organic root stimulator's new line of products called HAIRepair!!

Next day I go to Ebeanor Supermarket( our version of Walmart in Lekki ) and what do I see standing on the hair product stall, the very product that was advertised a day before (Naija no dey slack again oh, yay !!!)

I grabbed one, it cost  N950, pricey compared to other products of the same size but sooooooooo worth it o!! I have been using this moisturizer every other day  because using it everyday I feel will be an overkill, it really does what it says; gives your hair intense moisture!! Let me list what good it has done to my hair;

My hair has remained tremendously soft and moisturized despite it being 5 weeks post relaxer.

After application and I comb, the comb glides through, hardly any breakage although I help the gliding process by spritzing  my water and glycerin mix.

No build up whatsoever!! You would think it will make your hair gooey and greasy after a few days like most moisturizers that do not have a watery consistency but nope, they formulated it so your hair absorbs all of its goodness!

It contains coconut and avocado oil with coconut oil being the third ingredient after water and some benzoate stuff  and we all know the benefits of these oils so it's still kinda natural!!

It smells great, a bit overpowering if you use a lot but still yummy!

Needless to say, I LOVE this product, no lie and I recommend it to all my readers both natural and relaxed . Have you used this product before? Did you like it? Let us know!

Shout out to Deepbrown & Kinks for featuring NHCG on her blog!! Loving the work she is doing as well, check out her blog HERE

That will be all for now, the clip in extensions promo is still on, feel free to email me for more info!hope this product review will be of help to you!

Hiya,
How's everyone doing?! I've been a busy bee lately, finally just had enough time to put my thoughts together for this post.

Basically, we all know the benefits of protective styling and extensions are a great way to protect your natural hair from everyday wear and tear but as I always warn, they must be done properly to be effective as protective styles thats why I just loved the idea of clip in extensions when I discovered them. No painful tugging and pulling from the braids and sewing of the extensions, no smelly accumulation of dirt at the weft thanks to sweat and dust from the elements, as a result no itching of your scalp vigorously or tapping till you get a headache because you cannot reach your scalp! In short NO STRESS!!

Clip them in when you want, take them out when you're bored, you get longer use of your extensions because you aren't stuck with them on your head, even when the extensions get old, you take your clips off the old ones and put them on the new one, you save money from all those salon visits; the value is endless I tell ya!

At the risk of sounding like a car salesman let me move on to the details of this promo;
In the past I informed you that I sold just clips. A few readers called and bought the clips but almost all asked if I sold hair to go with the clips but I didn't and now I DO!!

For a limited time NHCG will be offering virgin Indian hair 16" inches, 18" inches and 24" inches customized clip in extensions to interested readers at a very affordable prize.

Customized in the sense that you will have a say as to the color, length, number of  wefts and number of clips on each weft for the cost of ONLY N2000 per weft and  N150 per clip!!

So for example if I want 1 weft of clip in extensions with 3 clips. It. Will cost me  N2450.

All you need to do is decide how many wefts you want, it's advisable to measure your head like this to know the weft length in inches;

Send an email to daboju@yahoo.com stating the measurements in inches of each weft length, how many clips you want per weft, how many wefts you want and what color and length you want. A weft with clips looks like this;

We will reply confirming availability and send payment details, upon receipt of payment please give us 3 working days to install the clips in and send them to you!!

It's that simple ladies, don't miss out on this promo because it's for a limited time oh!

And also feel free to mix and match lengths and colors, below is me with clip ins on;

and so you don't think it's only people with long hair that can rock it, here is my cousin with short hair and then with clips on;

As I stated in the past, you can braid down your hair and install the clips, my family friend Shirley(above)has a great video on Youtube illustrating how;

And for ladies who still need assistance installing the clips, I am working on arranging a stylist to come to wherever you are to install them on for a token price.

All in all, I got this!LOL so get with the program ladies, get NHCG customized clip in extensions!

*for more info call 08073589896, delivery is free within Lagos but is also available outside Lagos for additional costs.

Thanks for stopping by, I will be expecting your calls or emails!!

Hiya,
How's everyone?!! I have been a bit MIA around here because of a trip I had to make which was work related so I had to switch off from Hair Guru Mode :) but now I am back to share with you all my bentonite clay hair treat this past weekend.

So I first heard about bentonite clay from Natural Nigerian's blog then I did further research and found its major benefit is cleansing the scalp from residue and fungus that accumulate on it, it contains magnesium, potassium and silica which all help to detoxify, cleanse and rejuvenate dull and brittle looking hair and skin. Basically it serves as a natural alternative to shampoo. So in my quest to go au naturale hair product wise, I decided to purchase a bag of this clay at the last meet up.

To apply it on my hair, I read that it could be mixed with anything from water to apple cider vinegar so I decided to go full throttle! I poured out a little amount of the clay in a plastic bowl(I read that you have to avoid metallic bowls or utensils when mixing this clay for whatever reason I am not sure I think it might react to the silica metallic components in the clay- I no be Chemist!)

Then I added a whole egg;

Then some natural honey;

Then some hair conditioner and water(it was too thick);

Nobody warned me that this clay SWELLS!! By the time I was done adding all the orishirishi I could barely stir it. Next time I might use a blender to make a smooth puree...

I proceeded to apply the lumpy mix on my sectioned hair from root to tip like I do for all treatments;

I waited around just for about 30 minutes because.........I WAS SCARED!! This clay actually tightens your scalp pores, so I felt this uncomfortable tightening with a slight itch especially around my hairline and I just freaked out, I was not about to risk clumps of hair falling out because of a weekend treat gone south!! So I washed it out sharp sharp and what I noticed as I washed it out was kinda weird!! My hair did not seem too different but the skin on my hands felt supple and softer I tell ya!! I was like hmmm, niceeeee!!

I proceeded to air dry my hair and then straightened my hair out (my last use of heat this month) using my shea butter mixes from the meet up and TREsemme's heat protectant, my hair was reporting;

All in all, a good experience, since the clay is a natural shampoo I skipped shampooing with black soap and just rinsed out and since I put conditioner in the mix, I skipped conditioning so it shortened the process and its Tuesday and my hair is still clean! I have hardly had to itch my scalp so I know this clay works but I will not be using it regularly but only when I have build up and my scalp needs a real good clean, maybe once a month. So for those with really itchy scalps or major build up thanks to all the hair butters being applied, try a Bentionte Clay Mix, I will also use it for my skin!!

Thanks for stopping by,

Hiya,
 How's everyone doing? I was browsing through the web and came across Alicia Keys at the Billboard Awards 2012 and I tell ya, this Lady is fast becoming my Hair Updo Style Icon, whoever is her stylist sure knows how to make it work!!! Remember her Grammy hair up do I tried out HERE, well this time around she incorporated that big braid look I love so much, Check her out;

I saw this picture and even though I was not going any where special, I just had to whip out my combs and try it out for my self!! Luckily Essence Magazine has a step by step tutorial on how to get the look.

So the first thing I did was smooth out my edges and hold my hair in a high ponytail;

Then I grabbed some regular expression extensions to make the braid big and voluptuous (even Alicia Keys  added extensions in);

Finally I took the Braid round my head and pinned it in place, then tugged at the braid so it looked bigger like Alicia's;

This is one look I will definitely try again and when I do, I will use extensions closer to my hair color and I will make the ponytail more to the side and the braid even fatter, in fact I will work this style to the fullest!! Can't wait :) Till then, ladies tell me what you think, you like?

Hiya,
Its the 1st of July, that means the time has come for me to announce the winner of this blog's first ever GIVEAWAY!! The winner will be getting the NO MORE RECEDING HAIR STARTER KIT featured HERE.

But before I announce the lucky winner, I'd like to inform you all that after reading all the different entries, I had to change my criteria for picking a winner which was originally picking the most inspiring comment because all the comments were very inspiring and picking a choice was hard so you will see how I found a winner below...Trying to create some suspense up in here!!!LOL

So before I announce the winner I just want to share my experience at the Naturals in the City meet up I told you guys about in my last post. Yesterday was a very rainy day here in Lagos but I was not about to let the rain dampen my plans to go for the meet up, So at about 3pm I got to the venue and was there in time for the first speaker who had started her talk on retaining length, most of the things she said I have stated here and am well aware but it was still useful to know what I am doing for my hair is working for other people too. They had a very funny compere!! She cracked me up big time with her interesting side comments and facial expressions.

Then there was the second speaker who honestly I didn't gain much from. She was talking about how to survive a visit at the salon. I was a bit confused when she got up and spoke in a thick British accent telling us she was a stylist in the UK!!! The first thing that came to my mind was 'ah ah how can you compare a visit to a Naija salon to that of a salon in the UK'. We are worlds apart, so to say the least, her info was a bit of a let down for me but since I don't visit salons except to profile them, I won't take it to heart.

There was a short break which I used to peruse the different hair stalls they had selling different hair and beauty products. This was by far the best bit of my time there!! I was excited to see all the natural products and had to control myself not to buy a whole lot of products especially those I can find in the US because I'll be making a trip there very soon. So with out much ado, let me share my goodies with you all;

FROM NATURAL NIGERIAN; I got some Bentonite Clay for N1400 and 100 Percent Premium Cocoa Butter for N400 (you need to smell this stuff, it smells like chocolate!!so yum, I licked some to see if it will taste like it, bad idea!!)

FROM SCREWY HAIRED GIRL; I got her Peppy Peppermint Butter for N800 made from some Shea butter and essential oils, anything minty gets my attention

Finally I got BLACK CASTOR OIL for N1750 from SIZZLING MOMMY

Then they also handed out a freebie Whipped Shea butter from Kinky Apothecary- LOVE IT!!!Been using it every chance I get since yesterday, it contains that yummy cocoa butter I mentioned earlier;
Packaged Cutely

With a note in it listing all the yummy goodness in it;

Well that's all I got, The final sessions were on skin and nutrition, they got professionals to handle that segment and they did a terrific job, I learnt a lot about every thing skin/ nutrition related. I think the funniest thing that happened then was how a particular lady there kept asking about how to ADD weight while everyone was focused on loosing weight, she went on about how in her quest to be fat she eats fried everything yet she is still skinny; I felt like showing her my Uni pics, I was always the skinny one from child hood, see me now!LOL, when the fat comes you will start begging it to go!!

Anyways, at about half past 5pm, I decided to head on home and on my way out, who did I see getting her hair done, one of my readers African Naturalista!! Yay!! We chatted a little and then I bounced...All together a very well put together event and atmosphere, keep it up Meet Up crew...

Now to my Giveaway, so I decided to write out all those with entries who qualified to enter the giveaway;

Then I tore and wrapped each name;

I tossed the names around raffle draw style and then picked one;

AND THE WINNER IS.....

ENIGMA!!!!!! Here's her comment;Hello Dabs, i follow your blog and i also liked you on Facebook. I read alot of hair blogs but i always come back to yours because: I enjoy the fresh angle you bring to your topics,your hair is "gawjus", you are crazy about your hair just as i am.

But most importantly, the styles you do with your hair are off-the hook.

I am your regular pony-tail girl aka pack your hair but your blog has inspired me to try styles i see in Mags and even on T.V. All i can say is i'm getting there.

More power to your elbow.

allchisti@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks Enigma, I will be hitting up your email so we can arrange how I can get the gift to you and to all who entered thanks again, I plan on making giveaways a regular feature here so stay tuned, you might have a shot next time!!I encourage all other readers to take part too next time!!

Thanks for stopping by,
