Hiya,
Got this email from 13 years old Fatima and was so moved that at her tender age rather than reading gossip blogs or playing video games she was reading my blog! She is so articulate and focused on succeeding at her hair journey! I think its all the motivation we need this Monday morning...below I share her mail and my response...

Hi Miss Dabs. I am a 13 year old and huge fan of your blog. I am sorry to bother you but have a question. I have been on my hair journey for about 5 months now and it has been going really well until this week I just had so much breakage. I am panicking and scared of losing all my hard work. What could be the problem?
Is it because I used a shampoo with sulfates on all of my hair instead of just my scalp to do my monthly clarify? Please I am in dire need of help.BTW I started out around ear length and I am now about neck length but that's if my hair doesn't continue breaking. I wouldn't mind you posting it on your blog because it might help others.
Lots of Love,
Your biggest pint sized fan
MY RESPONSE;
Hi Fatima,
Apologies for the late response. Glad to know that at your age you are taking your hair care matters into your hands.
Yes as you rightly observed, sulfates tend to be quite drying as they strip off your hair's natural oils and dry hair like dry leaves breaks and crumbles very easily but if you just used it once for a monthly clarify that might not be the problem. Try focusing on moisture based hair treatments(you can find them under 'weekend treats' on my blog) and ensure you are moisturizing and sealing daily(with a water based moisturizer and a natural oil based sealant) especially if you are in the north as the weather there I presume can be quite dry.
Let me know how your progress goes. Keep it up.
Cheers,
Dabs
I get mails like these daily ( apologies if you sent one and haven't gotten a reply, I like to give detailed replies so it takes a while to get to some mails but I will definitely reply) but what struck me most about her's was her age and how she got the terminologies down- 'Monthly clarify', what 'sulfates' do...If more people knew the basics about hair care, there will be more healthy heads of hair around us....
Take charge of your 'hair destiny' today and have people staring at your long, healthy locks tomorrow!
Have a great week people!!
