NAIJA HAIR CAN GROW
Hiya People,
When I blogged about Chebe Powder HERE some months ago, I promised to have a comparison post after I had used the Chebe powder I purchased enough times to form a solid opinion.

Now that I have used Chebe powder for about 3 months for my hair treatments and I have used Henna powder for years, the time has come, the verdict is in...

THEY ARE BOTH WINNERS FOR HAIR CARE!! BUT....As with most things in life, they each have strengths and weaknesses. Let's get into those shall we...

CHEBE POWDER

CHEBE POWDER STRENGTHS- Chebe is great for infusing MOISTURE and detangling knots and tangles. As I explained in my earlier post about this powder, I think the detangling qualities have to do with the grains and their gentle 'exfoliation' of the hair strands as you rub them along your hair cuticles. The retained moisture must also be a factor of the way it is applied with either an oil or butter and braided to seal everything in...I bring this point up because when I used the chebe powder in my deep conditioner and applied it to my hair, my hair detangled beautifully but once I washed the Chebe powder out, the moisture was not necessarily retained...brings me to Chebe powder's weaknesses...

CHEBE POWDER WEAKNESSES-
1. The results as I mentioned earlier are not lasting...Chebe powder doesn't seem to have penetrative benefits beyond the surface of the hair in my humble opinion...once the Chebe is washed out of your hair that's it...I think that's why the Chad women have to keep applying layers and layers of it...but who has time to be walking around with mud in their hair...brings us to weakness number two.

2. It is like sand- grainy and let me tell you, the itch from mistakenly touching my scalp was insane!! When it itch my scalp the first time, I thought it was a fluke but every time after then, I have felt the same itch, so please avoid your scalp as the instructions say. Application  is definitely messy because it doesn't mix into a smooth paste...I have seen Shea butter and Chebe mixes but not tried them out yet so I don't have an opinion on how smooth they may be but my mixes with oils or conditioners have not been smooth.

3. The smell might be a problem for some people, it's quite nutty and smells like burnt sand...not the most appealing but definitely not the worst smell.

HENNA POWDER STRENGTHS- Is a great STRENGTHENING powder likened to a protein treatment because it has the ability to penetrate the hair cuticle and leave them feeling stronger. If you  buy the body art quality, it is smooth to the touch and mixes into a smooth soft paste which mixes very well with oils, coconut milk, deep conditioners etc.

HENNA POWDER

HENNA POWDER WEAKNESSES-
For people who are sensitive to protein, they may find henna powder to leave their hair too strong and some complain of Henna drying their hair out that's why I recommend following a henna treatment with a moisture treatment.

Henna STAINS!! Especially if you leave the color to release...you will be dealing with major auburn to deep red stains that can be difficult to get out so be careful during application.

In all, as I mentioned earlier, I think these two powders are great to incorporate in a hair regimen...Chebe Powder for MOISTURE and then you can alternate with Henna Powder for PROTEIN.

Have you used the two powders, please share your thoughts below...

Thanks for Stopping by,

Dabs

Hiya Ladies,
Hope all is well at your ends!! I came on here to quickly share about deep conditioning (DC).

It is one of the most essential things to do to your hair if you want your hair healthy and long. It also is one of those things that varies from one head of hair to the other in terms of products used..however the procedure for an effective deep conditioning treatment is largely the same. Below I am sharing 4 ways you might be doing a DC Wrongly...

DCing under this turban

1. FOCUSING ON JUST YOUR ENDS- Yes the ends are the oldest part of your hair and should be the focus when applying products, but the scalp where the hair follicles are needs some love too!! When I DC, I usually like to line my scalp with an oil blend  first then proceed to apply the treatment all over my hair, so that I give my hair a hot oil treatment at the same time as I treat the rest of my hair.

2. DON'T DC IN A HURRY- Deep conditioning shouldn't be something you do when you need to be somewhere ASAP! If you are at the salon under the steamer, get your money's worth and give your hair at least 30-45 minutes under that steamer...If you are at home and using body heat, give it at least an hour...this is because as the name implies, this is a DEEP treatment and needs time to penetrate deep into your hair shaft- Applying a hair mask for 15 minutes and then rinsing out is NOT a DC.

3. DISTRIBUTE THE PRODUCT EVENLY- There's no point deep conditioning just parts of your hair, section the hair into smaller sections so the product can be evenly distributed all over the hair and every strand is systematically coated.

4. DON'T LEAVE ANY HAIR OUT- If you are under the steamer, make sure your entire head is under the steamer and not just parts of it, I have seen some ladies sleeping under the steamer at the hub and their entire front hair is out of the hood or they are reading a magazine and half their head is bent away from the hood...OR if you are just using body heat and you leave your edges out because you don't want the shower cap laying on your forehead, this will deny those areas of the much needed heat that is required for a proper DC.

In summary, what is worth doing, is worth doing well. So if you have been making any of these mistakes adjust and get the most out of your deep conditioning treatment.

Thanks for stopping by,

Xxx
