Hello ladies,
For sometime I have been promising to make a few announcements and I am so glad I can finally make this one!!!

I have formulated a Comb Systems...as I choose to call it!!

 Here's how it came about earlier in the year, my mum was at my house and we were getting ready for bed, she watched me as I meticulously detangled my hair and styled it for bed and commented that I had been so systematic about the entire process in a teasing way to which I responded 'Mummy don't you know there is a system to combing hair? You can't just rake through your hair anyhow!!'. I had a light bulb moment right then and decided that I'd come out with a step by step combing system that will work great for ALL hair types!! Of course that meant I needed combs...

I sourced around and found a great company in the USA willing to work with me, I wanted to go the China route but quality was top priority on my list and the U.S company was not going to compromise on that, the materials used all top grade down to the precision cut teeth are made to ensure your hair doesn't get snagged or tangled in the process and as little as possible hair breakage occurs!!

Each comb comes with a small pamphlet attached to the pack which has a step by step pictorial guide on how to use it for best results, you can choose to simply keep the pamphlet for future reference when you purchase the comb. If you purchase the entire set, you get an E-manual which is a video of me showing you how the combs are used and an additional bonus clip with 20 top tips to growing long and healthy hair!!

Without much ado, it's my pleasure to introduce you to my 4 Step Comb Systems-

Step 1- The Ultimate Grow Scalp Massager-

Every hair journeyer NEEDS one!!
Use this massager for optimum blood circulation to the scalp and hair follicles, this scalp massager is a MUST HAVE if your edges and nape hairs are thinning or you are developing a balding spot!! The more blood circulates in your scalp, the more nutrients it gets and the more impurities are flushed out leading to hair growth in the area. Scalp massages have also been proven to increase serotonin levels which help relief headaches and pain. The pamphlet has directions on how to use this massager for optimal results.

Price- N800

Step 2- The Tangle Ease Detangler Comb

Once you are done massaging your scalp, the next step is to detangle your hair and for this you need a comb with wide precision teeth,clean cut so there's no chance for snags, a firm anti slip grip so the comb doesn't keep falling from your hand due to your slippery hands caused by using hair oils and cremes and a comb that is anti- static and prevents frizz. This comb does all that!! The pamphlet guides on how to systematically detangle the hair without causing breakage.

Price- N600

Step 3- The Smooth and Glide Bristle Brush

When detangling is done, the next step is smoothing out and this brush will ensure that each strand is smooth out without being too harsh on the hair and scalp. I especially love this brush because of its size,very makeup bag friendly, just plop it in your everyday bag to use on the go and it fits!! There's a different technique to using this particular brush though that leaves close to zero of my hair in the brush bristles, I share that technique in the pamphlet.

Price- N800

Step 4- The 2in1 Edge Slick & Tame/Coil Comb

This is my favorite comb because for a while I have been looking for a comb that  was small enough to lay the tiny hairs in front and could tame my edges besides an old dirty looking tooth brush!! I mean tooth brushes got the job done but how inappropriate is it and down right funny for an old hair infested tooth brush to fall out of your bag on say a date with a guy you've been crushing on for a while!LOL...those kind of thoughts crossed my mind a lot when I carried my hair tooth brush around until I didn't and just left my edges alone but lately with this edge slick comb I get so many compliments for my laid edges, bumped into Toke Makinwa yesterday at an event and she even noticed my edges!LOL!! The attached pamphlet shows how you can use this comb to lay your edges ladies.

It also has the added bonus of being a coil comb for Naturalistas who know how to finger coil and those who have locs or starter locs,this comb will loc your new growth with ease as it has a great tail for precision sectioning and teeth for gentle locing!!

Price- N650

Discount Price when you purchase the full Set in my Comb System- N2500

Hiya,
I know it seems I have abandoned blogging but trust me, I haven't, I have just been too busy to sit and blog but all that will change as I have a few posts lined up and exciting announcements for the blog.

I have been on a hair styling roll for a while and I'm here with yet another protective styling, it's a faux(fake) fringe using a strand of mambo twist(or similar) crotchet hair-

It's such an easy style to create especially if you are natural and can pack your hair in a puff.

Try it out and let me know how it goes!!!

Hiya,
Hope all is well at your ends!! I know buns are a lot of ladies go to style and in my years of owning Savvy and Chic hair beauty hub, I have seen first hand the dangers of constantly bunning your hair/wearing a ponytail...here are a few dangers,at the bottom of this post I will share pictures of simple alternative styles that  can replace buns.

1.Your Hairline is in danger- when you put your hair in a sleek bun all the time,you are pulling the hair in one direction to the middle and this can cause breakage along the hair line from the front, sides to the back...if you keep this up especially if you brush hard to sleek it down or add gel regularly, you will notice your hairline starts to recede...avoid this problem by loosing your grip and brushing out your hairline to form baby hairs along the hair line.

2.You risk breakage at the start of your bun- have you seen where someone holds their hair in a pony tail and uses hair pins all around the base near where the ponytail starts because the hair around is too short to be in the ponytail? Keep bunning and that person could be you especially if you use an elastic band to hold your hair or you hold the pony tail too tightly causing dryness at the joint resulting in breakage. I recommend satin covered pony tail holders or ouch less bands to stop snagging and dryness around the area.

3. Your ends might be in danger- Especially if you like to tuck them under the ponytail holder. When done too tightly, you will create dents along the hair shaft/strands....these dents will become weak spots from which breakage can occur. To avoid this from happening, I'd recommend you fold your ends and secure them with hair pins rather than the pony tail holder or elastic band (a no- no as these bands can even tangle your ends and cause breakage).

4. Your scalp is in danger of drying out especially the scalp beneath the base of your ponytail...remember those gelled high ponytails/buns that stylists used to do back in the day? I remember my mum's 40th birthday, I styled my hair in a gelled ponytail and added blonde extensions at the tips(don't asks me how I looked)... Kept the style for over a week and had to take it out after my scalp started itching  right in the middle of the ponytail,when I took the hair down, there was so much buildup in the middle and scaly residue because that area of my scalp had been deprived of air, moisture and oils. If I kept the hair style in my hair for a month, Lord knows the state my scalp would have been and we all know poor scalp conditions inadvertently affect hair growth.

So what am I saying, while buns and ponytails are cute and easy,  Your hair doesn't have to be a slave to them. There are equally cute and easy styles you can do to switch things up from time to time so you give your hair strands a break from the tension of buns.

Most of these styles will take less than 10 minutes to recreate and all you need are bobby pins. So who is recreating this look soon? I'll be making a hair tutorial on Youtube soon for those who'd like a step by step guide on recreating styles like this.

Stay tuned and thanks for stopping by!

Hiya ladies,
It's been more than a minute since I set foot here! I feel bad!! I'm on a short holiday in Houston and I didn't know how over worked I was until I got here...I am basking in the chill...no waking up early, no hours in traffic, none of all the many responsibilities I have back home but I know myself soon I'll be missing life in Lagos and will be itching to get back...enough of me how is everyone doing?! Hope all is well!!

As watching youtube here is much faster and cheaper, I have been enjoying loads of Youtube viewing and recently I stumbled on 'Silk Pressing'...it's basically straightening natural hair with the perfect amount of heat and the right products...the results are magnificent...

And after watching tonnes of videos and tutorials especially on 4C hair (most coarse hair texture), Naturalistas here are a few tips for any of  you trying to get silky straight hair that will have people questioning if you've had a relaxer or not.

Tip 1- always moisturize and seal and then use a heat protectant...the amount of heat required can lead to damage if not careful...hair must be blow dried with a paddle brush or the blow dryer comb attachment...this will allow the natural hair to be stretched out fully.

Tip 2- divide hair into sections(preferably 4 sections) and apply a silk treatment/serum(usually weightless and prevents the hair shaft from swelling thereby preventing frizzing and humidity from affecting the hair) to the first section you will be working on...just a dime size will do, Blow dry that section this time with a round brush this will help voluminize the hair, use cool air to help seal the cuticle.

Tip 3- use a very thin cutting comb and section the freshly blow dried section into very thin sections and use a straightening iron at 450 degrees over that section as close to the roots as possible at least twice using the comb chase method(this method prevents tangles and allows the silk treatment to bond with each hair strand).

Once you are done with that section them move to the next section till you are done with the whole head.

Tip 4- Spray the entire head of hair with a light holding spray to prevent fly aways but don't be too heavy handed so the hair has movement. Remember to also sleek the edges with non- alcoholic gel to have the freshly relaxed hair look.

This method of silk pressing will be available at the hub- Savvy & Chic Salon -30 Norman Williams street off Awolowo rd, Ikoyi, Lagos from April as I am currently investigating which silk treatment line will best work for our hair type and weather to give lasting results. So if interested, maybe you want to have straight hair for a change or you'd like to do a length check or you want your hair to blend with a weave then you can get your hair straightened by us.

Hiya,
FAUX LOCS ARE SO IN RIGHT NOW...Everyone loves them, both ladies that are natural or relaxed and I have been drooling over getting them done for at least a year!!

Source

If you follow me on Instagram you will know that I promised to put up a post on INSTANT FAUX LOCS...A technique that I came up with after spending a sleepless night one night trying to figure out how I'd rock faux locs without enduring hours of discomfort, pain and sheer frustration!!

We have had a number of clients come in for regular faux locs;

And after hours on end I can feel their frustration, it honestly

takes the whole day!!! Even with as many as 3 stylists

tugging at your head...at the end, the hair is no doubt

beautiful but the clients are tired and in pain and so are the

stylists!!

Something had to be done....*cue superman music*

Anyways, without much ado, I had my stylists create the

individual locs on a thread; I wanted just 25 locs, you can

make them what ever size you like...

Then I twisted my hair in big sections as they attached each loc to my hair- I will not divulge exactly how that was done as it is a trade secret for now *wide grin*...

All it took was an hour forty five minutes as I took note and
that was because my hair is longer and needed more time for my stylists to skillfully attach each loc to my twists and conceal the hair!

The result was really real looking faux locs which I have been rocking and loving for a whole week,except when its time to sleep- not the most comfortable hairstlye!!

I plan to keep them in for another week before I take them out as I miss my hair....but guess what?

When I take them out, the locs will still remain INTACT!! Allowing me to keep them and use them the next time I choose to rock faux locs....seeing as I used about 5 packs of Marley hair, this is very cost effective as most of you will know marley hair is not cheap or easy to come by in these parts.

Et Voila!! Faux Locs without the wait, pain or strain!!

To book an appointment, Please Call 08090613325 or email

info@hairbeautyhub.com. I and my stylists will be glad to

hook you up!!

Hiya,
In keeping to my promise, here's a style I saw off Instagram that I think will make a great protective style this week if you have at least shoulder length hair...

Hiya,
How's everyone doing? The 1st of December is around the corner, the 6 inches of growth challenge entries should start pouring in from then, can't wait to see the BEFORE and AFTERS!!!

Now to the topic at hand, I put up this picture on instagram;

It was a protective style I came up with using marley hair, I called it a MARLEY BUN WITH A SIDE FRINGE :)

I got asked about how I achieved the hairstyle and promised to put up a pictorial on the blog, so here goes...

STEP 1- I put my hair in a sleek ponytail

STEP 2- The Marley hair comes out to play- hold it in half with one end being longer than the other...

Tuck the hair behind your bun, flipping the shorter end to the front...

Wrap the other longer end over the short end in front and round the back around the bun..

Secure the hair wrapped around the bun with a bobby pin or two...as many as you need

The back should look like this;

The Front should look like this;

You can leave it like this...

or can decide to roll the hair in front into a fringe like I did;

I love this style because its super easy to do, it took me shorter time to do than to write this post and its quite protective as all your ends are tucked away nicely, it also doesnt discriminate, you dont have to have long hair, as long as your hair can be packed in a bun.

I chose Marley hair for this style because the waves with this type of hair are looser than kinky hair, the texture is also softer and not as itchy as kinky hair and it does look the closest to natural hair that has been twisted out.

Hope you ladies enjoyed this post, if you get to try it out and you are on instagram, please feel free to tag me.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hiya,
Hope all is well at your ends! Well I was looking at old pics of my hair the other day and it took me back to when I started my hair journey in 2010, I recall that after I cut my hair to neck length I couldn't wait for my hair to be long again...so you know what I learnt to do? Fake it till I got it :)

Here are 5 easy ways to style your hair when its about neck/shoulder length creating the illusion on longer tresses and keeping people guessing.

1.Use props- The best props by far have to be hair doughnuts

link

Simply wrap your ends around a faux doughnut and instantly transform your bun to a full juicy and round doughnut!

2.Use Bobby pins-This is also a great way to give the illusion of fuller hair, it will require you playing around with your hair, pinning the sides, bumping up the middle like you can see in these pictures;

3.Leave your longest parts out; This is such a nifty trick that I used to do all the time!! If its your front hair or your sides or back that's the longest, just leave a few strands dangling around while the rest of your hair is tucked away, it gives the illusion that all your is as long;

4.Do a double ponytail-I learnt this a while back and I must say its the best way to elongate the length of your ponytail especially if the back of your hair is longer than the rest, its super easy to do and nobody has to know *wink*...

5.Faux bobs- Create the illusion of fullness and are great for transitioners who are dealing with different hair textures, I have made it very known that I loveee faux bobs on this blog;

And with that, I conclude my 5 ways to fake it till you've got it post!!

Onto other business, the past couple of weekends I have announced on this blog, weekend treats I whipped up for the hub, well I am back again with this weekend's treat-
THE BANACADO HAIR MASK;

made of; you guessed it, Banana and Avocado as the main ingredients, then I added coconut oil, other essential oils, locally refined palm kennel oil...

To prevent the fruits from going brown (oxidizing), I added lime juice but any acidic fruit will do.
If you are in the Lagos environ, join me at the hub- 34A Awolowo rd, Ikoyi to indulge in this treat.

Benefits include;

1. SUPER CONDITIONING- Banana's are emollients(they attract moisture), are rich in potassium and vitamins A,B,C which all help moisturize and condition the hair.

2.Avocados contains many proteins and vitamins, including A,D, E and B6 as well as magnesium, folic acid, amino acids, copper and iron, all of which can help with both hair growth and nourishment.

3. Coconut oil and Palm Kernel oil are both incredibly rich in nutrients, fatty acid that penetrate the hair shaft and promote softer, more manageable hair.

With that, I hope you join me and give your hair a treat this weekend.

Thanks for stopping by!
