Hiya,
Yes oh my country people, even Mitai gets hair updates on NHCG how else will I stay accountable!LOL

Anyways, ladies I'm just so happy that my little princess from the way it seems took my hair genes and I'm not about to let them go to waste!!

So far here are a few things I have been doing...

I use regular baby wash on her hair every day at bath time so I haven't introduced proper shampoo yet not for any particular reason though, I just haven't seen enough build up on her scalp to require shampooing.

I proceed to apply either the Savvy Chic whipped to perfection Shea butter which by the way now comes in family size 32oz tubs (as I Like to call them because now everyone from my boys to me and hubs uses them), I massage the whipped Shea butter onto her wet locks...

Or sometimes I will use a combination of R and R luxury Shea oil(love. It) on her scalp and then apply to the rest of her hair this Eden Body works coco Shea Berry curly Creme which is for kids but you know mama has to share everything, so I use it too!LOL

Finally, I finger detangle...I don't comb her hair during the week because no styling goes on then but at weekends I will comb and style but always with this wide tooth comb...

Another thing I've stuck to doing is always laying her hair on a satin covered pillow as she grew out of her satin lined beanie I made for her. So even when she is on her little mobile chair, the satin cap covers the little head rest that came with the chair...that's how much I believe in satin, it truly prevents friction and dryness which often leads to breakage! If you look closely at the back of Mimi's hair you can see it's still straight while the rest of her hair has curled up, well I've observed that the area that is straight right at the back tends to be dryer and so I've focused on moisturizing that area nightly before she sleeps even if she is sleeping on satin.

All in all I'm quite a happy mama and hope I stay that way as Mimi grows older, her next update will be when she is 6 months by God's grace....hopefully I'd have stopped shedding because right now I'm like a hair monster shedding BALLS OF HAIR guys, it's horrible...just look-

It's so hard to come to terms with the concept that all this shedding is normal and just nature taking it's course...

Oh well, rant over, post over...I'm presently editing really fun vlogs as I've had quite a busy past few weeks so stay tuned, my next vlog will be up here next weekend.

Thanks as always for stopping by!

Hiya,
How's everyone doing? Hope well. So the other day, I was just browsing on youtube when I came across a video on sealing ends, clicked and found the procedure to be quite interesting.

What's the fuss about Sealing?

With our weather, maintaining well moisturized hair especially the ends can be a challenge but when your ends are properly sealed, the moisture is locked in for much longer which in turn prevents split ends from being formed or splitting further up the hair shaft.

So back to this procedure....the regular procedure of sealing generally entails just applying a small amount of oil to your ends...shikena!!

With this procedure, you will need some aluminium foil and a hair straightener together with your oil of choice.

Step one is to section your hair and apply the oil from your mid shaft to your tips(don't drown your tips with oil, moderation is key).

Step two, you wrap the hair right above where you applied the oil with some foil.

Step three, you clasp a warm straightener( you can either put the straightener on for a while and unplug just before use or like I did, use the straightener on low heat) around the foil and press down letting the straightener and foil glide slowly down to your tips.

The warmth from the foil will warm the oils on your tips, aiding quicker absorption and more lasting shine without the risk of any heat damage because first of all the straightener is NOT HOT but warm and the foil serves as a barrier from direct heat.

P.S- if you see any trace of smoke coming from the straightener then you are using too much heat, if your ends don't look smoother and shinier? You haven't used enough 'heat' or oil.

I tried this technique and it left my ends really really shinny and slightly straighter, not enough to look like straightened hair though since my roots were left alone but enough for my comb to glide through smoothly!!

Try it out if you are having a hard time maintaining moisture and shine and please be sure to let me know how it goes!!

Hiya,
It's another Sunday and this time I have a video for you guys. If you remember, I told you I recorded the renovations taking place at the hub while I set up the nails section of the hub. Without much ado, here's the video, the fun part of it was that I recorded a shopping trip I took in Texas as I shopped for the reno, there's also funny clips of my extremely annoying painter who drives me nuts and I think I'll never engage him with any work again( but I've said this many times!!) LOL!!

Anyways watch and enjoy also please subscribe to my new channel- NAIJA SAVVY MUM, I'll be posting regular vlogs of being a savvy naija mum (duh!! LOL)...I LOVE watching vlogs so I'm giving this a shot as I have quite a bit that I handle on a regular basis worth sharing from parenting, the salon, projects, cooking, organizing events and the list goes on!!

Hiya,
So if you have been in Nigeria for the past month you will be very aware of how epileptic our currency became in the currency market, suddenly basic amenities like hair products which could be easily purchased in dollars were now ridiculously expensive with the crazy rates forcing everyone to look within.

As I am a certified product junkie, I decided to go through my stash and see what proudly Nigerian products could easily replace the foreign products I have been been bringing in and relying on.

Remember those 'If you like' perfumes they used to sell? Say if you like Chanel Chance try 'Opportunity' or if you like Tommy Hilfiger's Tommy Girl try Tony Girl!!! Lol, most times 'Opportunity' or 'Tony Girl' will have a close enough scent but use it and after ten minutes you are back to square one...well with my new series the case is different, I'm saying if you LIKE this you will LOVE this other one...meaning the two products in my opinion are at par on all levels.

With this particular post focus is on the Dr Bronner's Peppermint pure Castille soap

One of my favorite products to cleanse my scalp, it's free from sulphates and harsh chemicals, the peppermint soothes the scalp leaving your scalp clean without stripping your hair from its oils. Well my people, opened a bottle of Nubian Roots Sulphate free hair cleanser the other day and was reminded instantly of the Dr Bronners peppermint shampoo-

The Dr Bronner's Peppermint pure Castile soap has the following ingredients-Water, Saponified Coconut-Hemp-Olive Oils (with retained Glycerin), Olive Fatty Acids, Peppermint Oil (boosted with Menthol), Vitamin E.

The Nubian Roots sulphate free hair cleanser has the following ingredients- water, aloe Vera gel, lauryl glucosides, coco beataine, Argan oil, vegetable glycerine, oat protein, D-Pathenol, Guar gum, caprylic/capric trigylecerides, essential oils.
I'm sure one of the essential oils in it is peppermint oil, though it has more stuff in it than the Castile soap, I used this shampoo, the lather was moderate like Castille soap, the soothe was phenomenal and my hair did not feel like it was stripped because it has no sulphates like the Castile soap!

Let's talk about the other main issue, PRICE! Right now a comparable bottle of the Nubian roots hair cleanser is the Dr Bronner's Peppermint Castile soap 12oz and it costs from $12 to $15 depending on where you are getting it, that's at least N4200 using our current N350/380 exchange situation. Now that's just unit cost, even at N280/300 the unit cost is too high for one product, the cost of shipping and handling down here will then increase the price to about N6500 for it to make sense to the vendor business wise...

Well our proudly made in Nigeria product which does exactly what this Castile soap does costs just N3500 and you will not start panicking when you are on your last quarter because you can get more with the snap of your fingers :)

Where to purchase- from their website-here
Or from Savvy and Chic Hair beauty Hub- 30 Norman Williams Street, Ikoyi Lagos.08090613325

DISCLAIMER- I was not in any way compensated for this post, I also am not making this comparison because the hub sells this product, I will be featuring other products that the hub doesn't have. This is purely an objective comparison which I urge anyone to engage in and I'm sure you will start nodding YES DABS, YASSSS!!

Stay tuned ladies, I'm going to shed light on products you never knew about or thought you could depend on, new and old proudly Nigerian brands!!
