Hello Dabs, remember me? I sent you an email six months ago showing you my 6 months progress....its a year now and i'm very happy to share my progress picture. My hair has started getting real attention from friends and I decided to start a blog too to share the tips and tricks that has helped me personally. Just like you i'm also becoming an inspiration....thank you for making out time amidst taking care of your family and your business to motivate us that Naija hair can really grow!! Hope you check my blog from time to time on www.juditheresehaircare.blogspot.com

My 1year progress pictures are attached to this mail;

GREAT PROGRESS!!! It can only go UP from here, the skills she has acquired last a life time, so that even when hiccups come along the way, she can figure things out and sail through...oh yes I am talking about hair but this applies to life in general...for those in doubt, best believe, NAIJA HAIR CAN GROW!!!

Hiya,
How's everyone doing> Hope fine! This post is all about Koyin's hair, she recently sent me her before and after pictures since she started her hair journey and the results were stunning!! Since she started reading this blog and got her regimen together, things are looking up with her hair!!

Hear her story and be inspired!!!

I officially started my healthy hair journey in March, 2013. Thinking back, I'm not sure my hair has ever really been healthy. Growing up I had long hair that everybody said was "nice" but in retrospect, I highly doubt that it really was. It was probably just alright. Well, I kept growing and eventually I grew into the weave-age. Weave in, weave out, weave in, weave out, no break in between! Then I discovered the curling wand. For the few days I didn't have a weave in I would curl my hair with it, everyday. Heat, heat, heat, no break in between! Of course, with time, my hair broke, broke, broke!

 My long hair broke so bad that I could hardly even pack it up with a hair band. I didn't know what to do so in August 2012 I just went into a salon and had the stylist cut off everything that looked like it shouldn't be part of a healthy head of hair. It was right at the top of my neck. I was ready. Ready but clueless. I was obviously clueless because I went right back to my weaves and heat till I came across naijahaircancrow in March, 2013.

 Boy was I SCHOOLED! Ignorance is truly a sin. I started my journey there and then and I haven't looked back ever since. Well, I lie. Hehe. I've had a few set backs because I started it all in such a hurry (I honestly wonder where I was running to) but now I have fewer set backs and a better understanding.

My go to regimen includes:
• Pre-pooing with Hair Trigger, Hamp seed oil/Argan oil and Herbal Essence Hello Hydration conditioner or a conditioner made from shea butter and various nut oils called Olori.
• Shampooing with ElastaQP Creme Conditioning Shampoo or Holland and Barrett's Manuka Honey Shampoo.
• Deep conditioning with Mixed Chicks Deep Conditoner [my favourite of ALL my hair products :)]
• Tea rinse with Black tea and Green tea.
• Moisturising with ElastaQP Olive and Mango butter moisturiser
• Sealing with coconut oil, grapeseed oil or morrocan oil treatment.
• Oiling my scalp with castor oil and hemp seed oil
• Adding my proteins here and there as well. Every few wash days I may use Aphogee 2 minute reconstructur.
• Covering my hair with a silk scarf or satin cap to sleep.

That is my basic regimen for when I'm not trying to be all experiment-y. I'm a bit of a product junkie so I still experiment with all sorts.

Between March and now, my hair has made such an improvement in health and length. I understand my hair. On my last relaxer day I was too stunned at the results that I just had to send naijahaircangrow my progress pictures.

In June my hair was grazing my shoulders but by the end of September it was at Armpit length! I feel encouraged. With my latest results I feel like the sky is the limit! [pun intended, hehe]. I'm still not sure why I had so much new growth between relaxer days but I'm tempted to believe that it's either the fact that I have become a regular at the gym or the hemp seed oil I incorporated into my scalp treatment... or both. Either way, I'm glad :)

LOVELY RESULTS!!!Keep it up Koyin!!! All it takes is making a decision to take care of your hair and like I always say, IT WILLGROW!!

Hiya,

How's everyone doing?! Hope all is well! As for me, I am busier than ever! So busy I still have not put up my first every beauty post! Hopefully I get some free time this week to get that done. Now to the post at hand...

I know quite a number of my readers are au naturelle and that's lovely but most people that have gone natural decided to be natural out of sheer frustration, most times the story is ''My relaxed hair was breaking, unhealthy so one day I decided to cut it all off and start afresh without relaxers.''

So when some ladies become natural, they try to make it work for a few months and when there is a little hiccup or their hair is in that awkward length stage where its not a TWA(Teeny weeny Afro) but is not long enough to blow out and style it, that familiar feeling of frustration sets in once again and  some ladies grab a relaxer and start the cycle again or simply live in braids and kinky twists forever- If you are in this class of ladies- First here's a BIG HUG from me to you- it will get better, read my blog and other hair blogs for tips and tricks, stay positive and then read this mail I got from Jennifer, a reader of this blog-Her hair is natural and she too just recently mastered the art of making it work and loving it...  Here is hoping that after reading her mail, you too will love and get to know your hair in what ever state it is!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Hi Dabs,
 I stumbled across your blog just recently and I must say it has really boosted my confidence in Nigerian natural hair. I know a few Nigerians who stay abroad and have waist length hair and I always felt like it must have something to do with their staying abroad, maybe the weather or
something LOL but seeing your hair already gives me a boost of confidence in my own hair.
I have been natural all my life. But only last year, for the first time in my life did I come to know that there was any such thing as natural hair care. I have been doing the best I can since then and I honestly am amazed by the changes in everything about my hair. I do see a little improvement in length; my back hair is shoulder length while my front hair touches my nose (when stretched). I guess my hair still needs time to recuperate after all the years of abuse with heat, tiny teeth combs, bad products and absolutely no care except shampoo and conditioning *covers face* :( I don't know why I hadn't discovered it all this year; I would probably be at waist-length by now. lol.
Nevertheless she is doing great so far and I'm determined to grow with it. So here is what occurred this morning. I had co-washed my hair over the weekend with V05 Moisture milks conditioner and usually I put my hair in two strand twists after moisturizing (my signature hairstyle) but for some reason I just wasn't up to it. I decided I was going to style my hair for the first days of the week so I did chunky threading to stretch the hair a bit. Here comes Monday morning, I was halfway to work by Past 6am when I realized I had forgotten my COMB. of all things to forget. how was I going to style my hair without a comb???? Today is Monday I don't want to be looking horrible all over the office and have people turn up their noses at my natural hair.I was so confused..............

I got to the office, stood in front of the bathroom mirror and for a bit I thought of putting back my beret on my head and walking out. Somehow I summoned courage, loosed the threading and attempted to style my hair.

The results were amazing. Never has my styled hair looked this good without a comb. lol
 I feel so happy I just want to share this with all the fellow Nigerian Sisturz out there. It is possible to have good hair. Cheers :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Indeed! It is possible to have good hair- if you take care of your hair it surely will be good to you!!! Stay inspired!

PS. The September import window closed on the 7th, Thanks to all the ladies who took part, your products are being ordered!! For those who would have loved to take advantage of the import window opening, October is around the corner and I have planned a 'lil extra something for that month, will fill you all in on that very soon so stay tuned!! As usual, thanks for stopping by!

Hiya,
I always cannot contain my excitement when I get mails from readers telling my how helpful this blog has been to them, it's always that extra umph I need to write another post! This segment of be inspired features Izehiuwa my first Naturalista to be featured!!

You see, when I started this blog, my thing was I need to let Naija ladies know they can grow their hair!! I'm tired of people starring at my hair like I'm from Mars, I need them to know they too can have healthy hair...it really tugged at me for a while and I am soooo glad that since then this blog has been doing just that, letting people know that Naija hair can grow...I have no bias! My hair might be relaxed but the last impression I try to give is that this blog is only about relaxed hair...being relaxed is a personal style choice I have made but my gospel is the same whether you are relaxed or not your hair can grow with the tips I proffer here..and I am soooo glad that this naturalista has taken those tips on and is getting to know her hair and most importantly Making it work!!

Here is Izehiuiwa's mail to me (posted here with her permission of course ) as she tells her story from how she big chopped her healthy looking relaxed hair became natural and loves this blog :)

Hello Dabs,

My apologies for not getting back to you immediately after your last email. And many thanks for everything. You are doing such a marvellous task.

I just had to gist you about my intimacy session with KCCC (that you helped me purchase. A million THANKS)

But let me give you a brief history of my hair. I had a massive big chop in December, 2012 and I've been rocking my lovely TWA.

When my hair was relaxed, it was very thick and stubborn. Many a time, it broke combs in salons (who didn't heed to my instruction). Every month, I had to relax my hair which became dense again by the 2nd week. Mind you, I have a tender scalp. My hair would not relax but I would have a scalp that was very nicely and crisply burnt. So - called "professional salonists" helped in destroying my hair by combing it so forcefully like they were cutting a tree with cutlass. It got to an extent, I could no longer inflict self induced mental and physical pain on myself. So I cut the permed hair all off leaving like half an inch of natural hair.

IZEHIUWA'S RELAXED HAIR BEFORE THE BIG CHOP;

Now that I'm natural, I'm the extreme end of 4C hair. Yup. The very extreme. My hair has absolutely no curl definition. I think I've passed the 'Z' type as my hair is so tightly curled that it sometimes 'bends'. This time, I've drawn the battle line with my hair. I'm gonna tough it out with 'her'. I've been successful so far, but I have not been able to make my hair have curl definition.

Oh yes, I've tried ecostyler, jack5ive and a host of other gels and curl pudding. My hair has simply refused to budge. 'She' just keeps swallowing all the products while laughing at me (the owner of the hair oh).

And then I thought, "shebi KCCC can do more than other gels and curl puddings" according to you tube videos. Hence, I went harassing you for the product. When the product arrived, I danced and announced to who cared to listen that the best natural hair product just fell on my lap (not that most of the people understand sha)

Hmmm, I applied a good amount of KCCC to my hair and immediately I heard "o de shiiiii' meaning 'e no enter'. I didn't give up. I put my hair in a 2 strand twists while shouting and screaming for all the evil spirits in Lekki to relocate to the ice desert of Siberia.

I unravelled the hair the next morning with prayers on my lips; and what did I see ? My hair was just there - still no curl definition.

Do I give up? Do I buy yet another product? Do I blame boko haram for the stubbornness of my extreme 4C hair? No. Instead, I'm madly in love with my hair and I will continue to love, cherish and care for it. I will always love my natural hair no matter how it looks and no matter how it rejects products.

Thanks for indulging.

Have a lovely day.

Izehiuwa

Wow wasn't that just so inspiring!!! She had beautiful hair relaxed, has gone natural and has beautiful hair.... One thing her story highlights is this; the road to beautiful hair is NOT EASY! There are no quick fixes! You just have to make up your mind to get to know your hair, what it likes and does not like, what works and doesn't and learn along the way...no short cuts but the beautiful thing is, once you finally know what works, you are good to go for LIFE! You know you can cut your hair today and have it back to its previous length. I feel bad for people who have chosen teams and rigidly limited themselves within these teams...we can all learn from each other natural or relaxed, hair care is hair care, do it right and your hair will flourish!!
Izehiuwa I wish you all the best, you have already conquered the aspect of accepting your hair the way it is...the rest of the journey to beautiful hair which is knowing what works and what doesn't work for your hair, may have lots of twists and turns but will be sooo worth it in the end!

That's all for now ladies, in other news THE SHOP NHCG PAGE IS STOCKED! Check it out to see if there's anything you like and send me an email...I focused more on deep conditioning products this time because our Naija market has little or no options of GOOD deep condtioners for those of you who don't like to concoct like I do, I will leave the sale of oils for now to my friend's at VANITY OILS :)

Thanks for stopping by as usual!

Hiya,
Its a brand new month and as I said in my last post, the SHOP NHCG IMPORT WINDOW is OPEN till the 7th of April...feel free to send in your orders via email but please check the SHOP NHCG PAGE first to see what's in stock before placing an order...as for the 'mystery product' I said I want to get this month, Ill tell you ladies all about it in my next post( enjoy the suspense- wide grin :)

This post is all about AYA!! She is a family friend and a silent NHCG reader!!lolzz I was thrilled to find out that she had started stalking this zone and applying the tips to her hair because last week she sent me this mail(Im posting it with her permission of course);

Hi Oju,
Thanks for the advice on your blog, especially the co-washing and castor oil posts. Its really helped alot.

Been carrying my natural hair for the past 9weeks and I think I kinda prefer it to the constant weaves. Would be giving my hair some time to breathe (at least 2-3weeks in between weaves) more often :)

I've attached a before and after pic to this email :) so excited my hair's getting healthy again.

Thanks darl

Xoxo,
Aya

Here are the before and after pictures of her hair after 9weeks of caring for it NHCG style...let the pictures speak for themselves;

THIS IS BEFORE
THIS IS AFTER!!

As you can see THE AFTER(above) is a healthier version of the before, her ends before were thinning, uneven, scraggly and looked lifeless, she has given them a good trim now that Im sure got rid of a lot of split ends and will allow the ends fill out, the ends look very well moisturized and sealed, shiny and healthier looking!! It can only go up from here for Aya's hair!!

Hope you all are inspired by this post! It really just takes a single decision to take better care of your hair, to block out negative notions and conclusions and just care for it! I was at a friend's kid's party and she tells her pal can you believe this is all her hair(she points to my hair) the friend retorts holding her weave 'and this is allllll my hair!!' My friend not getting the joke said no seriously she doesnt have a weave on and then it dawned on me that this lady was not joking because she then says 'oh seriously? its her hair?? wow. good genes, I have to buy mine to look like this!' I truly felt bad...because this lady could not even for one second grasp her mind around the idea that 1. Naija hair can be long and healthy! 2. Those that happen to have such healthy hair could actually have nutured their hair to make it that way...all attempts to tell her about my blog fell on deaf ears...it was like she was saying in her head, 'give me a break abeg! you have good genes'!

So I really applaud and appreciate ladies who have come on this blog, taken the tips I have offered with an open mind and applied them patiently and seen results!! I applaud you all for proving the dismissive lot wrong...our Naija hair can grow and I will keep believing it, saying it and proving it till the whole world believes it!!

Okay Pep talk over, its been a while since I pumped you guys up!! Now lets go out there and GROW SOME HAIR!!!

hiya!!
Its been a minute!!Hope all is well with you all! So I was looking through my pictures the other day and I found a picture of a lady I stalked, YES STALKED at the Palms last year!! She was walking past Health Plus and I spotted her and like a tiger who has just spotted its prey I approached her keenly and told her I loved her hair and wanted to take a pic of it for my blog and she kindly obliged me, so here is RiRi's (the name she gave me) healthy hair;

This is a 100 % Naija girl's hair oh!!I did not try to interview her because she seemed in a hurry but I am sure she takes good care of her hair, just look at how shinny it is. I want to use this medium to encourage all those who are giving up on their hair journey, its not only my hair that can grow, your's too can grow!! You might not see much change initially but keep doing the right things to your hair and your hair will surely respond!
