Hiya Ladies,
Its the weekend and I have a protective style look to share that I have had for approximately a week!! It's by a brand called The BELLA COLLECTION.

The hair looks like kinky spring twists with curls at the end, I love it!!! Below is a video of the installation at Savvy Chic Hair and beauty Hub BOOK HERE;

This how the hair looked after installation;

The hair was quite inexpensive, less than N2500 a pack,  I used two packs and has held on very well one week in though I miss my own hair and will most likely take it out soon but I do recommend it if you are looking for a simple cute braid/twist look!!

Have a great weekend people!! Who else is rocking crotchet extensions?

Hiya,
How's everyone doing? Hope well! In my last post, I shared that I was going to get some crotchet braids done...well I had been eyeing this newly revived box braid bob hairstyle;

PHOTO CREDITS- INSTAGRAM/GOOGLE SEARCH

And you and I know there was no way I was going to cut my hair in a bob for this hairstyle, so I decided to try the next best thing- CROTCHET BRAIDS!

I decided to use some blonde in front to give the hair style that extra oomph!!

The installation was relatively pain free, there were a few naughty strands that were too thick to form a secure knot so we left those out and for those trying to DIY, make sure the hole at the start of the braid is big enough for the braid to pass through and you should be fine.

I had these in for just a little over a week and got bored/hot (perks of having a salon, free hair!!), to maintain it...all I did was spritz my scalp nightly and oil my edges so the extensions didn't dry the hair out. In terms of longevity I think this hairstyle has the tendency to get rough early especially if like I did, the tips are burnt...what I would do differently next time is not burn the tips but have them securely tied and the ends cut blunt like I've seen others do because I found that the burnt ends were sticking together and pulling the hair apart from the strands causing them not to look neat, to remedy this I just simply trimmed the braids that had hair sticking out and the great part was I trimmed with no fear since my hair was not in any of the braids.

Took the braids out some nights ago and something very interesting happened but that's a post for another day, let's move on to what's in store at SAVVY & CHIC HAIR BEAUTY HUB from tomorrow Black Friday till Christmas Eve!!

Hiya,
For those who follow me on Instagram or look to the top of this blog page where my Instragram pictures are posted, you will see that I recently got crotchet braids done using Freetress Bohemian wave braiding hair-

You can purchase HERE

I've been loving this stress free hairstyle and got asked by a follower on Instagram whether crotchet braids are truly protective or its just hype....I thought about it and came up with quite a few reasons why I absolutely love this hair style technique and here they are.

1. VERY LOW MANIPULATION- Basically all that happens is that your hair is braided down like you'd do if you are getting a weave done and the crotchet hook is carefully passed through each plait and hair is attached strand by strand...

If done properly, there is no pulling or tugging that is experienced, the hair is carefully knotted at the base and voila!!

2. YOUR EDGES ARE SPARED AND YOUR HAIR COMPLETELY COVERED- This hairstyle allows you to save your edges especially if you are styling your hair forward  or to the side, you can simply make sure your edges are left out when the cornrows are being done...as for your hair, not a single strand of it is in the mix  with the extensions....so say you get braids like these beautiful ladies below, your hair is not at risk of being 'TRIMMED' off while they neaten the braids like stylists in Naija like to do, its also not at risk of being 'CUT' off by mistake when loosening or taking the extensions out.

3. IT'S SOOOO VERSATILE- If your extensions can create a secure knot, then you can use the crotchet technique!! So whether straight or curly, coarse or wavy, long or short....you can create ALL TYPES of looks with this protective style as we love doing at the Hub....

4. GREAT FOR DIYers- Are you an avid DIYer who hates to submit her precious locks to anyone else and you are wondering if you can try this on your own, I say YES INDEED!! As long as you can braid cornrows which don't have to be neatly sectioned by the way, just need to be secure enough with a distinct enough parting if you want one...If you also have good eye hand coordination, all you'll need is a mirror and your latch hook...but your hand go pain sha ( you should be used that one as a DIYer).

5. IT'S QUICK!- Apart from being a very straight forward technique, installation is quite quick once you have the hair ready, taking it out is even quicker if you don't care to keep the hair after. To take down, you simply feel for the knot at the base and snip just above it, the knot will unravel/fall off and that's it...if you want to save the hair though like say you get braids, you will just need to do the reverse and push the braid through the knot- super easy!!

6. Finally, THERE IS NO CARELESS ABANDONMENT of your own hair!! You see with this technique you can very well reach the base of your scalp and oil it, you can spritz through the cornrows to get to your hair and you can oil and massage your hairline and nape hair as much as you want without too much inhibition like with say weaves and braids.

I think with these points of mine listed above, its fair to say that if you are considering using hair extensions, The CROTCHET BRAIDS technique is the ULTIMATE way to protect and style!! Love it!!!

Feel free to share your thoughts below and if you are in Lagos looking for where you can get your hair styled using this technique...you know we are here for you at Savvy and Chic Hair Beauty Hub- 30 Norman Williams St. Ikoyi Lagos, Please call 08090613325 to book an appointment!!

Hiya,
Here's a little update on last Saturday's activity packed day!! The Naturals in the City event was that day, the Loc Appreciation day event was on later in the evening to which Savvy & Chic was an official sponsor. If you follow Naija Hair Can Grow on instagram you would have seen updates from that day already.

Anyways, started out my day at the hub, getting the Jamaican Mango and lime/ Taliah Waahlid products ready for display-

they are presently on display at the hub and most of the products like their protein conditioner, scalp oil, no more-itch spray, Jamaican black castor oil, Taliah's great detangler, black earth cleanse and conditioning shampoo CAN all be used by Non- Loc'd hair journeyer's, you know I break the rules all the time and get out of my lane and use these products and they work great on my hair too!!

Spy more pictures from the Loc Appreciation Day on the Locitude blog- HERE

Then it was off to the Naturals In the City-8 event where I met quite a few new (to me) and interesting brands and of course I couldn't resist so I picked a few products;

Above are; Three bottles of Hawaiian Silky Herbal 14-in-1 spray- there was a buy 2 get 1 deal so I took it and will be giving away one or maybe 2 of these bottles in a future post. It was such a coincidence to see this brand there though because I recently did a You tube video(which I haven't posted) and reviewed this spritz, it really makes my new growth soft and manageable.

Then I was introduced to the AWENI brand; they makes soaps, scrubs and body butters if I recall, I got their Aloe Vera soap and got another exfoliating soap(the brown one) FREE :), been using the free one and I love it, cleanses my skin without stripping it off completely- The reason why I don't like dudu osun soap for my skin.

Then I got the MOST DELICIOUS SMELLING CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE SUGAR SCRUB ( the small tub with dark brown stuff in it) from  a brand I just got to know about; Bubbles and Scents. I need to do a separate review on this product when SMELLIVISION is created- soooo YUM :)))

Then I got Natural Nigerian's Leave in conditioner and Namaste Organics leave in which I cant wait to try when these extensions come out..

Speaking of which; its been two weeks since I've had them on and I cannot wait to take them out ASAP!! But I was asked a few questions about crotchet extensions.

Q 1. Can you pack up the extensions in a bun?

Yes you can :)

Q. How do you care for your own hair;

I lift up the extensions from each woven braid;
Then I oil my scalp and surrounding hair:
I will blog about how I take it down with step by step pictures later.

Finally, we have a new range of Satin sleep caps for kids; As I don't have any daughter or little girl around me, had to use my son as the model :)

Could only get one shaky shot of it before he yanked if off his head and warned me never to try it again!! LOL

But for you are mum's with daughter, for your nieces, friend's daughters, basically little girls from ages 5 up to say 8, this sleep cap will be a nice way to introduce them to caring for their hair, its also a plus that the caps come in really fun colorful variations for adults and kids...

 Kid's caps go for N750 only, Adults N1000. Simply visit the website or email info@hairbeautyhub.com with your order.

Thanks a bunch for all the support!!

Have a blessed new month ahead!!

Hiya,
How's everyone doing? Because I've been busy doing one event or the other, I have had little time to bring you the regulars like product reviews and weekend treats! Today I have put everything on hold to write this review and give you all general updates...

So the product up for review is the Affirm Conditioning relaxer system P.H 4.5 5 in 1 Reconstructor with Argan, Pequi & Buritis oils!! *whew what a name!!!*

This product was recommended to me by a NHCG reader who narrated how effective it was in making her hair stop breakage, she said it was better than the Aphogee 2 min reconstructor, then I went online and the reviews on amazon were also great so I had to have it.

The Affirm brand is getting popular in these parts but I noticed its mainly their relaxers that 'posh'salons use but as usual Naija salons are still slacking in understanding hair and hair products, so ask an average stylist that works in one of the salons why they use the Affirm relaxer and she'l probably say, '' E good well well, my madam dey buy am from Yankee''.

Well, I have stated my philosophy on relaxers, they are essentially the same components with different strengths... now my interest is more in conditioners like this that is why when I got this product and I noticed it was made to compliment the relaxer system, I didn't get the relaxer.

Right off the bat, the label states that it has a PH of 4.5 which is great because our hair's ph level is between 4.5 and 5.5 and relaxers, chemicals and such alter the hair's ph level leaving it susceptible to breakage, for this reason, you always need products like this to regulate your ph level. Those that came to the Salon Day out will remember I touched on this when I talked on hair porosity...

It also claims to be for damaged or fine, limp hair and has all those oils I listed above- Argan oil included(Argan oil dey reign oh, you'll hardly find a product that doesn't have Argan oil in it these days!!lol)

INGREDIENTS
Now to the ingredient's as listed-  It has water as its first ingredient, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, urea, mineral oil :( a few cones, ceramide 3, hydrolized keratin, argan oil, some fruit extracts, sugar cane extract, a bunch of chemicals.

As you can see with all the keratin and ceramides( a form of protein) in it, this is a hard core protein treatment and even looks and draws like eggs when poured out;

DIRECTIONS

The directions say to apply after rinsing the relaxer, leave for 5 minutes and rinse off. I used it as a co-wash and a deep conditioner instead though( I never follow the 5 minute rinse off rule, my conditioners must do some WORK!!)

MY OBSERVATIONS
The smell? It is sooooo pungent, it lingers after you have washed it!! It must be all the fruit extracts they put in it!! #notcute walking around smelling like a bunch of fruit!!

How did it make my hair feel? well while my hair felt stronger, it had the coated feel I always get from products that contain significant amounts of mineral oil. Mineral oil was listed at the top of the ingredient list and so it did give off that ''you can't place your finger on it but your hair just feels coated'' feeling- LOL

Final Verdict; I am sorry but I will pick Aphogee 2 Minute reconstructor over this all day every day, it smells sweet but not too over powering and it definitely makes my hair feel great without the coat, wish they put its PH level on the bottle like Affirm did though but aside from that it's Aphogee all the way! Once this bottle is done , I don't think I will re purchase...

Now onto other news..... So after 7/6 years of never getting braids done( last time I had braids on was Law school in 2007/2008), well I finally I got them thanks to CROTCHET EXTENSIONS at the HUB!!!!

(Somebody is feeling her blonde locks!!)

So how it works is, I had my stylists twist/ braid the hair down a day or two before the appointment and when I arrived, all they did was hook the extensions to my woven all back braids, it was slightly more uncomfi than the last crotchet extension I did because the hair was different, twists were fuller, longer and thus heavier but I have been LOVING being blonde so much that I think this will be my go to protective style!!!

In other other news, THE LOC APPRECIATION DAY, WORLDWIDE is tomorrow and the Lagos chapter hosted by LOCITUDE BLOG has
Savvy & Chic HBH are official sponsors!! We have all our Jamaican Mango and Lime products as well Taliah Waajid products for locs and natural hair (but you know I'll use them any way :).

Plus we have Jamaican black castor oil infused with Rosemary oil as well as their Extra- Dark Jamaican black castor oil(the darker it is, the more potent it is) all sold at affordable prices and will be available at the Hub from Monday!!

10 Lucky guests will also have a FREE tub of the Hub's whipped Shea Butter- The Zingy Version(Whipped with peppermint oil, tea tree oil and glycerin).

Loc Starter Kit also up for grabs;

The Venue is The White Space, Ikoyi. 58 Raymond Njoku. Time is 4pm to 8pm.

It is sure to be an informative evening for all Loc'd or Loc'd to be guests, so please if you know any one interested invite them.

That's all for now, will keep up the blogging if you keep up the loving!!!*just made that up-wide grin*

Have a great weekend!!
