Hiya Ladies,
Hope all is well. I am here to share in summary some messages I have gotten recently asking for hair advice, as usual the aim is to answer these questions in hopes that other readers who have had the same questions have them answered.

So let's get right to it...

Chuckleberry007 asked...
Please I need advice on hair dyes. I am currently trying to transition to natural hair and my hair color is a color 4, I heard brown hair doesn't grow well. So whats your opinion on hair dyes?

Dabs...
Hair dyes are chemicals that either deposit color on the hair strands or penetrate through the cuticle and color the hair, the first category are temporary and are largely safe but the second category are permanent and because of the deep penetration, they can cause damage to the cuticle and cause hair withering and damage. If your natural hair color is a color 4 then this should not be altered as the natural color of ones hair does not affect it's ability to grow long and healthy. Hair color that is brown due to sun exposure or chemicals should not be corrected by dying rather, allow the colored hair to grow out by regular trims and deep conditioning to strengthen and manage the hair in the interim till your new growth grows out.

Kenzo asked...
My hair line is in shambles and my hair keeps breaking and I am getting married soon, how can I fix this asap!!!

Dabs- There unfortunately is no quick fix to damaged hair, we need at least 3 to 6 months to see real changes. I will however recommend that you start now than later to implement the steps in this post HERE

Ada asked...
My natural hair is soft and light and I cannot keep up with maintaining it so I'd like to relax it, what relaxer do you recommend?

Dabs- What you have described is called FINE textured hair, this type of hair can easily be damaged by wrong relaxer applications. My recommendation is to prep your hair with an intense protein treatment to strengthen it a week before you decide to relax it, relax it with a kid's relaxer kit in mild and make sure you go to a professional who will stick to the time chart, also apply relaxer to the tips at the last minute before you wash it out because its always better for the hair especially the tips to be under processed which is easy to correct than over processed which is nearly impossible.

Mma Zoe asked...
I intend to dye my hair temporarily, what kind of dye should I use.

Dabs- Any temporary (rinse out) dye will do, Luckily temporary dyes just sit on the hair strands without depleting the cuticle which makes them not harmful to the hair because there is no drying effect that leads to breakage. Just make sure you are getting a dye that states that it is TEMPORARY and also be prepared to use it multiple times to see the effect/ color as the dyes usually run off and face easily especially in contact with water/ sweat.

That's all for now...do you have more advise for these ladies? Feel free to share and also feel free to send me a message any time (Instagram DM) or ask in the comment section and I will do my best to answer!!

Hiya Ladies,
We are half way through the year, can you believe it?!!  How's everyone doing with their hair journeys, for those who are having a hard time, hang in there! Remember healthy and long hair is a product of a consistent and practical hair regimen!!

Here are a few tips to make sure there are NO SET BACKS in your future!!

NIP HAIR DISASTERS AT THE BUD- If you have for whatever reason had a weave in your hair for more than three weeks and you decide to take it out, know that you will need to give your hair a little extra TLC when you do take the weave out- an intense deep conditioning session, extra moisturizing and sealing,some trimming must all be done to restore strength and elasticity to the hair that was abandoned in a weave or if you are natural and colored your hair a rich blonde color, don't expect that the ends of your hair will remain the way they were when they were not colored, they will dry out- so you must have a moisture game plan to combat all that dryness if not YOU WILL SUFFER A SET BACK!!

UNCLOG YOUR SCALP- One of the fastest ways to slow down your hair growth is clogging your scalp pores!! The hair cuticle relies on blood circulation and absorption of healthy nutritious oils and air for it to flourish...if you are using products that have petrolatum that just sit on your scalp blocking entry or an outlet, YOU WILL SUFFER A SET BACK!!

DON'T ROUGH UP YOUR HAIR SHAFT- I read somewhere and have used this example since then, our hair shafts are like roof shingles, each strand of hair is made of overlapping keratin, when you mishandle your hair either by rough combing, using elastic to tightly hold your hair, knotting your ends indiscriminately, YOU WILL SUFFER A SET BACK!!

DON'T FORGET TO TRIM ON SCHEDULE- So I was a victim of this, in 2014 I decided enough was enough, no more regular trims, I'm just going to allow my hair grow and my ends will do their thing and do their thing they did by breaking off right in the middle and leaving my hair in a disaster!!

I learnt the hard way and pretty much had to start afresh...so now I trim on schedule wait for it.........every month!!lol Basically at the start of the month I take a good look at my ends and snip what needs snipping( I will call it more like dusting though) but this I see has really helped my ends look better. So you can schedule a trim for every two months, three months etc depending on how often your ends need a trim but stick to it( this point is especially for naturals as I have found they hardly trim their ends) or else YOU WILL SUFFER A SET BACK!!

PROTECTIVE STYLES SHOULD BE TRULY PROTECTIVE- What's the point of having a hair style done that takes you back on your hair journey!!If you are doing anything to your hair from a simple bun to adding extensions or a weave, your 1st PRIORITY should always be your own hair and nothing else...if you need to sacrifice some of the style for the safety of your own hair please do....don't go letting a stylist convince you to relax just your hairline so that it blends better with a weave or telling you that she must pick ever strand of your hairline so the Ghana weaving looks good!! Give her a big stare down and let her know that YOU WILL NOT SUFFER A SET BACK!!

HEAT IS NOT YOUR FRIEND- PERIOD!!! If you need to use heat which should be hardly ever, you must use a heat protectant...we respect clients that come to Savvy and Chic and choose to air dry instead of blow dry, I have also taught my stylists how to blow dry with minimal heat, in sections and in optimal time. If visiting a salon, you can choose to allow the hair stylists blow dry your hair after you have air dry to like 80% so the exposure to heat is greatly reduced! Romance with heat and heat tools and YOU WILL SUFFER A SET BACK!!

Lol, those are a few of the most common issues I have found that cause set backs...like major 5 inches cut off type set backs that make you wonder if you were sleeping through the time the damage to your hair was happening...I have suffered huge set backs and they can be very painful so now I do all it takes to avoid them even if it means remaining on the same length for a little longer than I'd like...Let's ensure this year is a SET BACK FREE year shall we!!

Have a great week ladies, feel free to comment below if you have been dealing with any set backs so I can help!!

Abuja HAIR LISTAS- I'm coming to your city in August and I hope you can make it to my HAIR REHAB Session at Jungo 3.0!!! I will unveil venue and plans as the time draws closer, so excited to meet you all!!!!

Hiya,
How are y'all doing?! My birthday was yesterday so I got my hair texlaxed just because I wanted sleek edges for my birthday (not that I was going anywhere extraordinary...)but yeah I self-texlaxed at 12 weeks post relaxer a week before on the 16th and I used my all time fave,  silk elements olive oil relaxer and enjoyed every bit of the treatment-

I spent a total of 15 minutes from start to finish, no combing, fully coated my ends with conditioner and coconut oil, no scalp burns and nicely textured hair!!

Took a texture shot of my roots just before I started;

Look at my ponytail after, see all the texture from root to tip...loving this texlaxed life!!

My hair is now fully at Bra Strap level- BSL, I didn't straighten it and didn't bring my length check T shirt on my trip so I don't have an accurate measurement but from the pics I took it sure is BSL.

Loving the pace in which my hair is growing...presently my hair is in layers as I gave it a nice new year trim. I have accepted that if you don't go in there and trim what needs to be trimmed and give your hair layers with scissors, your hair will help you out and layer itself but you will most likely be left with unsightly ends (uneven scraggly ends). I will resume Youtube texlax update videos so I can actually show how I manage my different lengths, how I dust my ends etc.

In March my hair will start post partum shedding for about a month if I'm to go by how it happened for my last two pregnancies, I'm fully prepared for that,  post partum shedding doesn't scare me as much again at least not as much as my Inverted V coming back, that gives me straight up nightmares but I'm watching the back of my hair very closely and so help me God there will be no more set backs.

That's all for my texlax update, I'm owing a shopping trip post but I held out that post because there is this shop I discovered on  Instagram in Houston where I am that is PACKED with a product junky like me's wants and desires and I have to head there first before I conclude my shopping trip...So stay tuned for that....P.S restrictions on Nigerian bank cards and our sad exchange rate has made this trip such a hassle for me and that's why I cannot even open an import window...hopefully things settle down and get better and we resume in our product junkie ways :) but stay tuned for that post and a compilation of all those who have entered the 2016 growth challenge!!

Thanks for stopping by,

Hiya,
I'm back with the  full scoop of how Sunday went with the Hair Rehab meet up in Port-Harcourt. When I decided I wanted to have a meetup in PH over the holidays, I struggled with how I wanted it to turn out, after some consultation(thanks Chiso), I decided it should be more like a chat session you get at a rehab center of some sorts like my Youtube videos...so on the day, I decided to separate the hall into two groups, those on a hair journey were seated on the right and those who are just beginning or are just learning about hair care on the left.

LEFT SIDE- BEGINNERS

RIGHT SIDE- HAIR JOURNEY VETERANS

 Me :)

Here are pictures of the lovely Hairlistas that came;

Fakus of Fabilas fitness

Free Whipped Shea butter for the 1st 10 attendees :)

Those on the left wrote all their hair care questions down and passed them to me as I moderated, answered, and also tossed it over to those on the right to answer, Hadassah of Nappily Nigerian girl blog was great in answering most of the questions especially pertaining to natural hair...

ME THE MODERATOR :)

Chi Chi has APL hair and will like Tail bone length hair one day :)

Preye asking how to blend natural hair with a weave  :)

Once the Q and A's were done, we went straight to munching and shopping at the Mini Savvy and Chic that has been set up at the hotel;

MINI SAVVY & CHIC HAIR BEAUTY HUB

And that's how the day went by!! Thanks to all that came, I really appreciate the support and look forward to meeting even more PH Hairlistas in the coming years...If you are in search of any good hair products to help with a successful hair journey then please feel free to stop by our store at the Golf Prince Hotel, 24 Abana Street, Old GRA, PH. You can also call 08090613325 for any enquiries.

In Sum, the year 2014 was an AMAZING year of growth and advancement in every area of my life and I am so grateful to God for that, I thank you all for the support and I look forward to even more progress and wish you all the very best of your heart desires in 2015!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
