NATURAL STYLE ICONS OF THE MONTH!!

Its that time of the month where I showcase a celebrity whose hair style is off the chain and serves as inspiration to me hair wise. Well this month I have two celebrity style Icons for Natural Sistahs; I just could not resist putting these two ladies up! Not only are they full of great talent, they are also really gorgeous and own their style, I love it when a lady owns her style, it is just so appealing!

Without much ado, ‘Our Natural Style Icons of the Month’ are; singer/photographer-TY Bello and international singing sensation-Nneka!!!

TY BELLO;

Her signature look is this black, tightly curled, big mane of hair which frankly is a head turner especially as she pairs it with her full haired eyebrows and her unique eccentric African accessories!! There have been debates surrounding whether all this is her hair and in a recent article written in Bellanaija.com she had this to say,
'I take care of my hair a lot and then also I have very soft hair, its curly but it’s not as full as it looks. That’s as far as I can say.'
This statement confirmed that she might have a little help from time to time. Now as you know from what I said about last Month’s Icon Nike Oshinowo, I am definitely not against getting help from the extensions department as long a it looks natural and believable!! And TY Bello’s hair achieves just that! In fact so many ladies had already resolved in their hearts that all this is her hair until she made the statement suggesting otherwise!

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT HER STYLE;

She flaunts HEALTHY hair; her hair always looks well moisturized and oiled, her hair line is beautiful and full, no recession!!

AND

She keeps things SIMPLE; the afro is already enough of a head turner, so the most you would see her do is change her part or pack it up, no over accessorizing with beads on her hair or all sorts in the bid to look ‘Over African’

SIMPLE AND CHIC
SHE KEEPS THIS LOOK CLEAN EVEN WITH ACCESSORIES

Our next Icon is mixed race singer Nneka, she is half German and half Nigerian hence she has more of hair type 3 rather than our African hair type 4. Her curl pattern is looser and her hair though soft and manageable, is more prone to frizzing.

All that is basic information but what makes her our hair Icon is the way she styles her hair. When she first came out, she embraced the reggae/soul type genre of music and so a lot if her clothing was like this,

 Her hair too which is in its natural state, almost looked unkempt most times in fact she truly just looked like Bob Marley’s little sister!!

But have you seen her recently???? I’m telling you, you would make a double take!! This lady has transformed and like Ty, her hair is gorg!!

HER ON THE COVER OF A MAG WITH TY BELLO AND RAPPER SASHA!
JUST GORG!!!

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT HER STLE;
It is VERSATILE!! One day she is in a baggy jumpsuit and a blown out Afro;

NNEKA LOOKING STYLISH IN A MAGAZINE FEATURE!!

The next time you see her she’s in some heels, a cute outfit and 'something going on' with her hair. Well with hair like her’s you have no excuse but to be stylish with it!!

HOME GIRL'S STYLE IS ON FIRE!!

Another thing we love is that she embraces her hair in its NATURAL state;

Can you imagine if she got a relaxer, straightened her hair and got a side bang or a full fringe or Kardashian curls; she would look like every mixed race girl out there, we would loose the rawness of her personality ! I truly hope this one she has started dressing cute and sassy no one will talk her into loosing her natural locks, that’s what got her attention in the first place!!

FINALLY
 She just like her fellow Icon Ty Bello, keeps things SIMPLE! Here she is below with her hair simply held back to balance out her busy African print outfit!

Oh well, I have come to the end of yet another interesting Icon of the Month segment (for me at least ;) Hope you have enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed putting it together and hope you can learn a few things from these Icon's styles!

Thanks for Stopping by,
Dabs
